Throughout schools, bullying has occurred in many forms, but the worst kind has been through the internet.
Throughout schools, bullying has occurred in many forms, but the worst kind has been through the internet.
Bullying has become a huge issue in all ages across the world, and it is not getting any better as the years go by. Like the bullying scenes in The Glass Castle, cyberbullying and peer pressure are all relevant and growing concerns today. Cyberbullying has been a major issue among children and young adults around the United States. Cyber bullying is directly defined as “willful or repeated harm inflicted through the use of computers, cell phones, and other electronic devices” (“What is CyberBullying?”). If an adult is involved in the incident, then it can be defined as cyber-harassment, or cyberstalking, which is a crime that has legal consequences (“Cyberbullying”).…
The web filters at school are unreliable and really easy to break. It could take someone like 10 minutes to break a web filter “A diligent student will be successful at locating inappropriate material if it is out there”. It easy like we see in this fact “Most secondary school pupils pay no attention to the internet filters on the…
Today, our society is centered around technology. The internet is used globally containing all aspects of life ranging from politics to education to entertainment. Although the internet has become a necessity in the development of civilization, the privacy and security it provides has come into question. Countries such as China and North Korea decided to regulate the information provided to their citizens through the internet, which, I happen to disagree with, and has sparked some discussion. I believe the government should not be allowed to regulate/ censor information on the internet as it violates the First Amendment, it is shown to be oppressive in other countries, and people will be able to find a way around it.…
Yes, there is a need for web filters, but they shouldn’t be so restrictive that there are hardly any sites available. It’s becoming a struggle finding a site that isn’t blocked. I believe that we, high schoolers are capable of being mature enough and not go to inappropriate sites, or bad sites that we shouldn’t be on. In conclusion, there are many pros and cons of having web filters in schools.…
It becomes a problem when the perfect site teachers want their students to get information from is blocked. Certainly, web filters are helpful when it comes to monitoring student’s internet activities and protects them from viewing inappropriate websites. It also assures the student’s parents their children are not exposed to any adult content at school. Without web filters, schools wouldn’t be sure what the students are able to search or view on the internet.…
With rapid technological development, the internet usage has experienced a tremendous growth in recent year, especially among the adolescents. The skeptical validity of the information available on the internet has brought to the concern on whether internet censorship should be implement. While the advocates welcome the measure with the belief that it helps protect adolescents from the misguidance and bullying from the use of internet, the critics argue that this measure is a hindrance to the development and freedom of adolescents. This paper examines both the advantages and disadvantages of internet censorship on adolescents in Hong Kong and provides suggestions based on these arguments. Advocates of the internet censorship affirm that…
So sometime it can be a good thing to have web filters as long as they restrict websites that should be blocked. I still choose to believe that the school web filters are too strict but I also understand why we use them at schools. I know many students that would like to see the web filters be less strict, but I also know many students who feel that the web filters don’t affect them in any way. There also other reasons for web filters like maybe some parents don’t want their children to access these web filters. Or some people would maybe take advantage of not having any web…
Currently in schools there are way to many restrictions enforced on the use of the Internet and computers. Computers and the Internet are used in schools to help enhance students’ learning and improve the academic statute of students. Instead it tends to hamper students learning as much or more as if there were no restrictions. Restrictions on computers should be reduced because they make it difficult to find information for research papers, students are more apt to get around the restrictions if they want to, and teachers are restricted by the firewalls that kids easily pass. Researching has clearly been made harder if you are a student.…
Their are many bad things on the internet that children should be kept away from until they are old enough to know about them. There is pornography, information on drugs, social media; which can be used for evil as well. These things should be kept away from children but there is also many good things on the internet. There is a lot of information that can educate and increase someones knowledge. But if we restrict access to all these sites and things throughout high school and then when a kid goes to college suddenly, there is no filters, he or she has no idea how to handle it…
Censorship? Or no censorship? Some argue it's better for children, while others would say it in fact hurts children. Does it protect national security? Do we really need it to maintain peace?…
Chances are everyone who has ever read this and will read this uses the internet daily. It is an incredibly convenient tool that allows us to find information in mere seconds. Imagine if our access to that information was suddenly limited, or even completely denied. That is the daily reality for citizens of China today. Their government censors anything on the internet that they do not agree with, and blocks popular websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Google, and YouTube.…
In conclusion, there are many opinions pro and against censorship, but in this case censorship has more bad than good sides. People should educate their children in a better way and should not wait for the government to educate their children about moral values. The best way to censure the content viewed on Internet is through self-consciences and control. Every human being has some fundamental rights provided by the organic law.…
Victims of cyberbullying find torment hiding behind every corner of their life and are unable to escape it. Chapter 1 of the book Bullying Beyond the Schoolyard by Sameer Hinduja and Justin W. Patchin does an exemplary job of illustrating to the reader what bullying is and the severity of its consequences on its victims. It leaves me feeling enthusiastic to dive into the next chapter in hopes of learning more about how to both prevent and respond to bullying and how to help protect our precious youth so that they may walk around corner without feeling overwhelmed with fear of what…
When it comes to internet censorship, there are mainly two points of view; those who believe in limitless internet freedom, whether it is freedom of accessing or sharing the internet contents, and those who prefer regulations imposed by the government for the sake of safety. Earlier in the human history, before the invention of the internet, both aforementioned ideologies were implied to other parts of the society, and the results are clear. Records are evident of what happened when people were given absolute freedom, without the fear of legal sanction, and how were the results different when borders were drawn to that freedom, preserving human rights? The internet is a part of the society and like all other parts, should be regulated by government…
Internet Safety for Elementary Students Internet safety has always been a concern for teachers, parents, and students. Mainly because, there is always the question if the internet is being used correctly. Internet use is secured at school but what about at home. At school there are certain sites that can be used and approved while others are blocked and cannot be used. Children are becoming more familiar with the technology being used today.…
