La Mafia
In media we have produced a film trailer entitled La Mafia; our group consisted of me, Chris, Jeremiah and Onur. The film’s genre is both comedy and action, with the setting being in a school. Throughout the production we set goals to make sure our trailer was unique.
Our production was aimed at the 13 -21 year age group, targeting the B-D social groups, in addition to the Aspirer psychographic group. Our production was more targeted at the male audience, as it utilises the violence/action genre. To attract this specified target audience we have used various effects, techniques and made choices affecting things ranging from visual effects to the smallest details. Some examples of these techniques are our choice of camera shot types, length, angles in addition to the special effects used. Many other techniques used to attract our audience are the colour choice, voice over, title cards, pace and music choice.
One of the main aims of our production was to create a comedic / action film that would revolutionize the comedy film genre at the moment, essentially reviving it and attracting an audience from the action genre. To accomplish this immense task our trailer had to achieve all of our specific goals, one of the main aspects was

The editing methods used included scene transitions, special effects and scene cutting; these were all used to attract our target audience. The use of special effects included: black and white scenes (which indicated realism, in addition to contributing to the dramatic/comedic build of up character), explosions, slow motion and zooming. Our colour choice for the title cards required experimentation lasting hours and is a prime example of one of the minuscule details of our work. In addition to this we spent countless hours synchronising the voiceover, music, transitions and special effects ensuring a seamless experience for our

Journal 1 After the first two weeks of lecture in Cinema Appreciation I have learned a great deal more about what goes into making a film. I was under the impression that there was one magical camera that could change settings to capture the diverse range of images instantaneously. Active viewing was something, I thought I did, but it wasn’t until I took a step back and saw the variety of shots and how each one of them is put together that I realized that there is more then one way to watch a movie. The different ways that a film is shot and how the scene is constructed are ways directors convey meaning to the audience. Film language and mise-en-scene are greatly present during the film Edge of Tomorrow.…

Films are products of their time and evolve as American culture evolves. As such, directorial use of existing technology, and the cultural desire for improved movie-making have led to the development of the motion picture industry. “To most people, a movie is popular entertainment, a product to be produced and marketed by a large commercial studio. Regardless of the subject matter, this movie is pretty to look at – every image is well polished by an army of skilled artists and technicians” (Barsam & Monahan, 2016, p.3).…

The film Children of Men, directed by Alfonso Cuaròn, is centered around the idea of the infertility of mankind in the year 2027. With the help of his cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, the pair has developed a paranoid, yet occasionally hopeful story that displays future conflicts associated with gender, immigration, terrorism, and technology. In an attempt to reach the Human Project and resolve the crisis of infertility, the group faces death, betrayal, and instances of individuals passing all moral boundaries. By using a minimal amount of cuts throughout the film, the pair glorifies the intensity of the film and allows the viewers to connect on a personal basis. The use of Lubezki’s realistic camera style gives Cuaròn the ability to pull…
