The 1972 film, The Godfather, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, is a perfect example of feudalism. With Vito Corleone as the king pin and the rest of his family as major players in the New York mafia. The Godfather is not the normal gangster film or a film about Italian immigrants. Two social movements occur in The Godfather, the aristocratic court, and the coup. While the film takes place mainly in the United States in the 1940s and 1950s, there are no democratic institutions seen.…

Both main characters, Henry Hill and Michael Coreleone, have grown up witnessing, experiencing, and perpetrating barbaric acts as part of a crime family. The Godfather and Goodfellas showcase similar acts of assault, drug use, and bizarre lifestyles. However, they also contain several aspects that differ from one another. The Goodfellas uses more weaponry with the exploding sounds of semi-automatic rifles and shattering glass. The Godfather, on the other hand, gets up close and personal with single shots to the face or neck, horse heads found in the bed, neck breaking, and strangling.…

Alphonse “Scarface” Capone was born on January 17, 1899 in Brooklyn, New York to a family of italian immigrants which were poor and were seeking a better life in the United States.…

Wonderful post, Scarface, is a very Interesting movie, another one of my favorites, Al Pacino, delivers again and I agree that he is a character actor. Notably, Al Pacino’s characters have clout, the movie Any Given Sunday, even though he played a good guy, his character stood out, he portrayed the character in depth. I selected “The Godfather,” however convincing; he is still acting, winning over the audience with his clever tactics. Michael Corleone acting role is similar to Manny from “Scarface,” in the film “The Godfather.”…

Walter Mitty’s mindset “The secret life of Walter Mitty” by James Thurber is a story about a man named Walter Mitty, who uses his creative imagination to fill colour in his dull life. In the world of his imagination, he is a hero, but in his real life, Mitty has low self-esteem. He wanted to be a heroic role-model because when he is driving a car, he thinks he is driving a navy hydroplane and gets back to real life when his wife says “Not so fast!”(Thurber 33). This exemplifies that he loves dreaming about being a hero so much that he forgets his real life. Another example was when Mitty imagined himself in an operating room and Pritchard-Mitford praises him by saying “I read your book on strepthothricosis………brilliant performance, sir”(34).…

“It would be nice if she could let this genius know about this one little flaw in this perfect plan for taking care of women in their old age” (Esquivel 11) This quote is an example of how traditions do not always benefit the majority. Traditions can bring the family together, and create a sense of communion with the family. Each tradition has a role within the family, whether to create a sense of togetherness, or if to imprison the other family members. These traditions play a vital role in the novel, and change throughout the growth and decrease of the family.…

Traditionally, family may be defined as a group of people linked directly by blood relations, wherein the adults take responsibility for their young ones (Giddens, 2001, p.433). However, there has been no legitimate agreement on an exact definition. What is clearer is the definition of family structure. Family structure (what a family consists of) is an integral variable in the constitution of a society. The British society specifically, has been witness to a variety of family structures that have resulted from changes and trends that have occurred in the economy, the political policies and other such disciplines of social sciences.…

If the disagreement goes very bad the family can break apart and turn members against each other. (Shelley 2011) Because of this, the family businesses that do best are the ones that understand the difference between their interests and the businesses’ interests.
