Inherit the Wind Summary

The film starts with Bertram Cates behind bars, awaiting trial for teaching his students about Darwin’s theory of evolution. Rachel Brown, friend and teacher,. also the daughter of the town’s minister. She urges Cates to plead guilty and at the mercy of the court. At this time, lawyers and journalists arrive for the trial to view and spectate. Matthew Harrison Brady leads the prosecution, and arrives to a picnic in his honor. He meets with Reverend Brown, District Attorney Tom Davenport, and also the mayor. Brady then has a confidential conversation with Rachel about her relationship with Bertram Cates. The crowd is informed that Henry Drummond will represent the defense, Reverend Brown and the Mayor discuss how they will try to prevent Drummond from entering Hillsboro.
Days later, Drummond, Brady, Davenport, and the judge meet together to conduct a jury selection. They 2accepts an illiterate jury member, Mr.

Radio reporters enters the courtroom to set up their equipment. The mayor takes the judge aside to talk to him about the worrying media coverage of this trial. The mayor lightly trys to tells the judge to pass a light sentence on Bertrams Cates. The jury declares Cates guilty and fines him $100 to pay . The prosecution objects majorly to the light sentence brought down. Drummond demands an appeal done because of choice made, the judge grants him thirty days to prepare for one, court is then adjourned. Brady tries to read remarks, but the courtroom begins to leave. Brady trying to deliver the speech to the radio reporter, and failing terribly. Brady has a mental breakdown out of nowhere and must be taken out of the courtroom as he tries on and on to deliver the speech. He dies of heart attack in front of his wife. Hearing the news of Brady’s death Cates, Rachel, and Drummond all decide to leave together on the train out that
