As the new waitress comes towards the table, Melvin is getting his plastic utensils organized, when she touches them and asks him, “What are those for?” Melvin immediately looks up and starts denying her services and tells her to get Carol. He is beginning to get very anxious; he has a confused and anxious look on his face when he is told that Carol might not be coming back to the diner. Melvin gets really upset and starts yelling and even calls the new waitress an elephant girl. This scene eventually leads to a scene in which Carol has a new doctor in her home treating her ill son. Melvin’s need for control and routine is so high, that he personally pays all the fines, and asks her to return to work to serve
