However, the visual focus of the film would shift from stunning, out of this world graphics to close-ups on the characters driving the story. Further, the types of visuals associated with the original were technologically impossible in the period – if they had been attempted, the film would emerge as a science fiction B-film with cheesy special effects. With that in mind, the film would emphasize meaningful dialogue and body language between major characters to advance the narrative. With regard to camera work, staging, and cinematography, the audience would focus more closely on what the characters are doing/how they interact and less on major action scenes filled with explosions and giant spacecraft.
