127 Hours is thrilling movie comprised of a true story based on the real life situation outdoorsmen Aron Ralston encounters in April of 2003 while on the Horseshoe Canyon Trailhead out of Emery, Utah (Ralston, #1-2). 127 Hours, based on Ralston’s book Between a Rock and a Hard Place, aired in January 2011 with Aron Ralston being played by well-known actor James Franco. Franco is biking and hiking through the Bluejohn Canyon when he loses his grip and falls, resulting in his arm being pinned by an 800lb boulder in between the bottom of the canyon for 5 and a half days (Hannaford, 2011). He documents his days of survival with a video camera he brought along, possibly a key aspect in his ability to keep sane. He fights dehydration, fatigue, the elements of nature, and his own mind in order to survive. Movie posters were created in the early 1900’s and are still used today to promote films and essentially attract a broad audience to want to watch the movie. With every movie poster there is a fundamental idea or message within it. Inside of the figurative hourglass there is a very prominent color gradient ranging from cool colors to warm colors. This color gradient can represent his level of sanity throughout the film. At the top of the hourglass are cool colors of blues that slowly get lighter when traveling down; representing his self-preservation in the beginning of this life-threatening situation.
