The Princess Bride is written like a fantasy/ fairy-tales, But the movie has a modern twist to a traditional fairy tale. It’s not like any other, it’s a satire/ parody fairy tale because it creates an exaggerated story based on traditional fairy tales. The superhuman characters of Westley, Inigo, Fezzik, and Vizzini are created to put the story on a grand scale. Each of these characters plus many more posses powers that normal people do not have. This movie shows good versus evil, hero versus villain, while the watcher figures out who is who.
In the movie, at the beginning, Westley has a secret love for Buttercup. She was not just a farm girl although, considering she being the most beautiful women in the world. They eventually find themselves both in love just like any other fairy tale, but instead of getting married right away he leaves to go find his fortune first. While on his trip it had been said that he was killed by the Dread Pirate Roberts who attacked his ship. Considering this is suppose to be a fairytale it makes you question what going to happen if Buttercup’s true love is dead already. As the story goes on, years later, The vindictive prince Humperdinck who needs a wife sets his eyes on Buttercup and forces her to marry. In a battle of wits, Vizzini is too proud to realize that he's been tricked by Westley into drinking poison. He’s pride is so great that he doesn't even realize he's lost until he has dropped dead. Now that all the men in the trio are eliminated Buttercup is left trying to figure who this man in black is. Finally realizing it is her long lost love Westly this whole time and just like a traditional fairy tale they kiss and seem like they're going to live happily ever after. Not realizing Prince Humperdinck was closing in on them and didn't have the same
