Film Analysis: The Hunger Games

Whether you love The Hunger Games movies, or you cannot stand them you must wonder why almost all of the young adults in the world are interested in them. The three of the four movies that have been released are all on the top 50 of the All Time Box Office most grossing films, and there is no doubt the fourth and final film will be up there not long after its release. The Hunger Games appeals to young adults because it illustrates their anxiety, it shadows the corrupt authorities, and the main characters do not play by the rules. The young adults of today are wondering how their future will be which is why we are drawn to movies like The Hunger Games. With America being a democracy, it is interesting to read something that tells of a dictatorship like nation. The Hunger Games involves the President Snow who has the districts under his complete control. The Capitol, the richest and most prestigious district, watches the games and does not acknowledge that it is watching real killing. This is like some of the powerful governments in that they do not think about the lives that are being spent but only the goal they are trying to reach. Young adults can see the similarities between the current bad countries and this book’s government. Teenagers feel inferior to the big governments, and the “idea of rebelling against [it] is quite outrageous until they see how it is done in dystopian literature” (Artifice). They see these powerful characters rebelling against this big power and it gives the readers hope to conquer their own problems.
