Men through centuries have felt entitled to own and posses women. In the movie Avengers: Age of Ultron, Tony Stark, the character played by Robert Downey Jr said that he would reinstitute prima nocta if he were king of Asgard; prima nocta is the right of a king to bed a woman on her wedding night. Women are then equated with things that can be possessed by men. The belief of men to have rights to women reminded me of the actions of Elliot Rodger, whom drove to a sorority house in California and murdered 6 women, and injured 14 others. He left a manifesto stating that he wanted to punish women for their constant rejections.…

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has certainly spawned several fan theories as to just what is happening in the film’s confusing (yet brilliantly shot) Knightmare sequence, where Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne sees a post-apocalyptic future filled with parademons, an evil Superman (Henry Cavill) as well as several hints on the impending arrival of Darkseid. However, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox helmer Jay Oliva has just stated that it may not have been a dream but a direct connection to his movie! Oliva recently spoke on the Hall of Justice Podcast, where he explained how Batman v Superman might have featured a “Time Boom.”…

The Dark Knight There are few films that bring out the inner hero in people or simply the desire to do good, other than those about super heroes. The Dark Knight is no exception to the rule, as Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) also known as Batman is face to face with his greatest enemy the ever the sinister Joker (Heath Ledger). The director Christopher Nolans film adaptation on the Batman has a much darker and moral tone than others before it. From the dark streets of Gotham, the fictitious city the film takes place in, to the cynical humor of the Joker and the care free mentality of the cities criminals. I believe that anyone that is a fan of super hero films, or crime films, will find it to be a very tasteful and well-made film.…

Sound designer and faithful collaborator Walter Murch was contacted by Coppola before the beginning of the shooting and touched more than one aspect of the film both during the shooting and the post-production; among his work on the film are the scene were the boat is patrolling on the river and stopping a Vietnamese boat (he felt like the viewers needed to see what the boat was doing in Vietnam when they were not carrying Kurt to his destination) some of the editing of the movie, but it most incredible contribution was for the sound. His debuts at Apocalypse Now were chaotic, he soon discovered that the crew did not recorded enough ambiance sound on location and that they were no sound database with the sound he needed for the weapons forcing him to dubbed most of the sounded of the movie himself. The greatest achievement of Walter Murch is the sound he used for the helicopters, which were recorded at a Coast Guard station in Washington and still use in films today, more than being perfectly accurate he managed to give them a…

The church scene in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 offers powerful insight into the archetypal relationship between death and rebirth. As darkness shifts to light, Raimi depicts the death of the black Spiderman and the coinciding birth of Peter Parker. Contrarily, Raimi displays the simultaneous death of Edward Brock Jr. and the birth of Venom, as Edward stands with outstretched arms asking God to “kill Peter Parker” (Raimi). It is through these haunting images Raimi challenges our preconceived notion of an admirable and exceptional God. Edward’s transformation to Venom shows how divine power and influence can empower us to be evil.…
