Film Analysis: Sunset Boulevard

Sunset Boulevard

The movie Sunset Boulevard directed by Billy Wilder was very well shot and edited. There was a lot of great shots in the movie, a couple of the great shots was at the New Year's Ball scene and Norma got mad and went up the stairs but it showed through the mirror where she was going it was a really neat shot. Then when they were driving to Paramount and max looked through the rearview mirror to tell Norma what was wrong with her make up. What was neat with that shot was that it had a lot of depth in it, from beginning able to see forward and back at the same time. The film was very well written, I don't really see it being in any other way. I think that Gloria Swanson (Norma Desmond) acting was really great. Norma

Rear Window In the film, Rear Window, Hitchcock makes me feel as though I am trapped as I watch other people's lives behind a lens like he does. To me, the main theme of this movie is his human curiosity and obsession with others and what they are doing in their daily lives. It is almost as though he has his own personal soap opera Television show, just without the Television. I really like the suspense and different kinds of emotions he makes you feel during the film.…

This was my first time watching Vertigo and my god, what a masterpiece. It is, of course, as good as anyone says it is. This film is packed with fantastic suspense techniques, a whole lot of mystery and a great amount of unhealthy obsession. There is no doubt about it, Alfred Hitchcock executed this film to nearly perfection BUT this film would not be the masterpiece it is without another incredible genius, Bernard Herrmann. His compositions throughout the entire movie literally made the movie and I am sure that most people would agree with that.…

One film I watched this semester was The Blind Side with the main actresses and leading woman, Sandra Bullock. Her performance in The Blind Side was flawless with her acting abilities because she can play a variety of roles. For instance, she plays caring, loving mother in The Blind Side while in Miss Congeniality she plays a goofy, shy undercover FBI agent. In The Blind Side, Sandra is kind, loving, sweet, sassy, and bold. However, in Miss Congeniality, Sandra is shy, funny, rude, and demanding.…

I personally enjoyed the film, although they suggested the events that were to occur later, I kept watching with enthusiasm because I wanted to see how they would play out. The diction that the brothers used throughout the film created a negative attitude towards them, although Winthorpe and Billy Ray were the ones to be involved in a legal mess, other characters gained sympathy. Ophelia and Coleman were the ones I was rooting for, they had a job of taking care of others needs from the beginning of the film, and were taken advantage of without receiving appreciation. The wealthy characters such as Penelope and her friends, through the diction and the events were not very liked. The story plaid on a serious issue, which was people’s overwhelming need to consume no matter who or how many people they took advantage of.…
