Film Analysis: Rikers Island

Decent Essays
Let’s face the facts these officers working at Rikers Island are not only doing their job but also risking their life doing it. I’ve watched many shows and documentary dealing with gangs and jail violence that I know for a fact being a guard at a penitentiary it’s an easy job. You’re always on ease, watching your back, and expecting the worst. Yes, it is very wrong to use extreme force in certain cases. However, you have to also keep in mind you are dealing with rapist, murderers, and criminals that have committed serious crimes. On the other hand, I do agree with focusing on the safety and supervision of teenage inmates. Most teenage inmates are there because they made a mistake or was pressured to do the wrong thing. These teenagers are young

The emergence of the female heroine in young adult dystopian fiction is working to change stereotypical representations of women through texts. Women are often under represented, hyper-sexualised or lack complexity in modern works, with just 23% of films distributed globally from 2010-12 featuring female protagonists according to a report released by the Geena Davis Institute. While it is true that female protagonists have been seen over time, they are all too often represented in manners that focus on appearance, their domestic roles and subservience, or emphasized femininity (Connell & Messerschmidt, 2005).
