Based upon what I learned, economic mobility decreases depending on social factors. I feel these two concepts go hand in hand. Some examples of these factors such as geographical location, attainment to education and wealth. As the saying goes, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. I found it quite interesting how in the film, “Inequality for All” showed that there is a vicious cycle that ruins our economy and how there is also a virtuous one. It makes sense that the working middle class would be the most important class status in our economy, yet I do not understand why our society is slowly creating an empty gap between the wealthy and poor.

It is the career ladder to a successful economy. Education helps build skills and endorses individuals to move up the hierarchy. This all leads back to Robert Reich concept of creating a virtuous cycle in our economy. As in the reading, “social policy from greater educational opportunity to antidiscrimination measures that some of these interventions the cost would be minimal and might be offset by long term gains in aggressive productivity” (Arrow, Bowles, Durlauf 2000). All I believe are what will create a more productive society in turn create a more productive middle class, and creation of government programs to help get the inequality individuals to a more stable and equal stature.
