Fighting War Is Not Loving Our Country Directed by famous director Clint Eastwood with six Oscar nominations, the film “American Sniper (2014)” is based on a book “American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History (2012)” by Kyle Kyle, with Scott McEwen and Jim DeFelice. Kyle Kyle starred by Bradley Cooper is the main character who sniped over 160 enemy combatants, which is officially confirmed by the Department of Defence, overriding Navy Seals sniper record. Kyle mentions in his book that it is far less than he actually killed. He estimates the number to be around 255.Kyle was born in a conservative state of Texas. He wanted to be a competitive cowboy. One day, he saw the incident on TV in which American embassy was bombed. He decided to join the army in order to protect the country. In his four tours in Iraq war as a Navy Seal, he became the deadliest Sniper in American history. After he retired, he devoted himself to help veterans who suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder but he was shot by an old veteran whom he was helping. Although the film uses rhetorical appeals of emotions in the context of war effectively to arouse American people’s patriotism, fighting or supporting wars is not patriotic.
