Film Analysis: Ex Machina

Decent Essays
Last month, I saw the movie Ex Machina, which shows a robot manipulating easily a human. It brings reflexions about the actual AI technology in progress. I think scientists are too much in a hurry to test their "super-humans" projects. Artificial intelligence does not have a place in today’s society. Certainly not yet.

First and foremost, AI technology goes against human values, such as truth, simplicity and respect of the human being. We shouldn't include AI machines in our society, because it's based on logic and just can fake emotions. I think our world's improval depends on our behaviors and ideas, which does not concern AI characteristics. Robots are not the future generation and it can increase only the human's efficiency. So, it can help or harm in our world, in a way or in another, because we do not control someone's use of his own bot. Moreover, we should be able to be satisfied with our own abilities and then, notice we do not constantly need to boost productivity. AI’s use makes us useless. It represents a devalorization of the human being. We forget the essentials are sufficient and technology needs control and a lot of reflexions. We also need to avoid impulsivity and to succomb at pressure from the society's "improval" obsession.

Our technology is not enough developed to prevent robots’ dysfunctions and to limit or control completely its potential actions. Human's trust in artificial intelligence is exaggerated and could lead to the humans' manipulation. Our different ideas protect us from uniformization and manipulation. According to an experiment on human trust in robots in emergency situations, most people would have chose the malfunctional bot instead of their own intuition and skills to save their

Another great example for production design in science fiction movies is the movie Ex Machina. To begin with, production design includes the design of sets which makes set design one of the most important aspects while producing a movie. For example, one of the points set design deals with is the location where the film is going to be shot. Funderburg (2015) explained that in the movie Ex Machina, they used two Norwegian locations both designed by the architects Jensen & Skodvin. One of the locations is a private mansion and the second one is the Juvet Landscape Hotel, which consists of single suites secretly linked to the fjord and forest around them (para. 2).…

A brilliant mind, Ben Goertzel, a Chief Scientist from Brazil, talks in this article about thinking machines and immortality, and how these interesting topics could affect the modern society where we live. He states: “The machines will invent new machines, prototype them, and build the factories, without involving humans” We are evolving to a new era, the age of technology and digitalization. An article from National Geographic states that artificial Intelligence is already integral part of human lives, and we may not be aware of it. This short article gives an idea:…

Humanity is having trouble with the prevalent rate of which technology is developing. It is remarkably rapid that it cannot be controlled by the human mind. Children are choosing robotic machines over regular biological individuals, which creates this bizarre experience between the human and the computer. As a society, we have yet to decide whether this development in the robotic machines is ethically concerning, or if we are able to control the path it takes. Sherry Turkle, author of “Alone Together,” believes we can control the pace and direction of technology.…

In "All Can Be Lost," by Nicholas Carr, author and journalist, warns against the increasing human dependency on automation. Carr argues that the use of machines dull our senses by removing he drive to be self reliant. He expands on this point by adding that, because we are starting to rely solely on technology and automation, we will not be prepared for unexpected errors that may occur. Just like with autocorrect on our phones, we become so dependent on this as a crutch, that if it messes up, we won't know what to do to fix the problem. Carr makes a point that when we trust in machines to save us, we will not know how to save ourselves.…

This is nearly identical to real life in the workplace. Many of our jobs are heavily reliant on artificial intelligence and other forms of technology to complete tasks. Artificial intelligence is extremely useful in computer processing and in the aid of manufacturing goods effectively while maintaining a steady output of product. Artificial intelligence also helps those with disabilities to be able to live more independently and freely than they would have otherwise.…

Technology is Bad if You Rely on it In the stories “Robot Dreams” and “The Veldt,” it is proven that technology is not always a positive thing that can help improve society. If people instead use technology to gain a “much deeper understanding” (par 6), companies can improve human productivity instead of replacing humans altogether. As a solution, use AI to replace deadly jobs and only assist jobs in demand to enhance work production. Human mistakes can lead to injuries and death because humans are very fragile. Machinery can last a much longer time and no one would freak out to the destruction of an A.I. if it doesn’t affect the human body directly. Companies shouldn’t use robots to take over work that is tedious but to cover humans on work too dangerous for the human body.…

They say our moral reasoning is the glue that holds us together, but with robots we don't need to think about how to do things or what to do. This means we have to know the difference between between right and wrong but with robots doing all the work we won't need to think ,robots don't have moral reasoning so they could do something wrong and not care about if it hurts use or not. Without moral reasoning we would be all over the place not caring about others. Like the monster in Frankenstein he didn't know right from wrong so when he killed that little boy he didn't understand what he had done.…

The world of artificial intelligence is advancing at a rapid rate with robots becoming increasingly human like everyday. Advancements in these technologies requires us as humans to understand the benefits and the ramifications of introducing this scarcely understood technology into our everyday lives. Blindly allowing a new form of intelligence could be potentially catastrophic if not fully understood as the stability of these technologies are yet to be understood. Within Isaac Asimov's story “Liar!” he attempts to humanize the robot to distance it from the Frankenstein Complex.…
