Film Analysis: Dólares de Arena The film by filmmakers Israel Cardenas and Laura Amelia Guzaman Dólares de Arena was released in 2014 and features Noeli (Yanet Mojica) as the main character. The fairly attractive young Dominican woman, Noeli is improvised. She lives in a hut with her boyfriend Yeremi (Ricardo Ariel Torbio). Her life seems very relaxed as she hangs out with and hustles white tourist on the beaches of the Dominican Republic. Her main conflict is her class and by consequence her lack of money. To combat this problem, Noeli has established a long term relationship with an elderly French woman named Anne (Geraldine Chaplin). Whether it is entertaining the relationships in order to get gifts, lying or out right asking for money to get ahead in life, Noeli has made a career on the beaches of the Dominican Republic. Specifically, she has made a career form the three-year relationship with Anne. The crazy thing about this entire situation, is that Anne is truly in love with Noeli; and she also knows that her money is truly the only thing that is keeping the bond between Noeli and herself. The reversal that occurs that transitions the action and story into the second act is Noeli going to the doctor to confirm that she is pregnant. This changes her focus to be mainly on her boyfriend. The climax of the film is Noeli being robbed and beaten late night on the deserted road. Additionally, the reversal that transition the second act into the third act is Noeli making the decision to leave Yeremi and to go and live in Anne’s hotel room. The focus then reverts the Noeli’s and Anne’s relationship. Three-act structure of the film helps the story unfold
