Film Analysis: Band Of Brothers

Roosevelt would later comment to the public about entering the war with “The struggle would be long and difficult, but by attacking America, its enemies had sowed the seeds of their destruction” (835).
In Band of Brothers the viewers get to follow how Easy Company was assembled, how they became a unit of great friends, and all the devastation they witnessed together. This film represents the side of the United States of America and their tactical strategies in the fight to take down Nazi Germany. All the soldiers were from all over the country and from the different economic and social standings. This group of men endured all sorts of hardships that war brings. They were hungry, went long days with little sleep, no showers, no change of clothes

When you add in the music and the plot you cannot stop watching it once you start. Life is not all fun and games, we have all experienced our fair share of tribulations, from highs to lows, and everything in-between, moments in our lives that have changed us, sometimes for the better and other times for the worst. The documentary film Blood Brother, directed by Steve Hoover, takes the viewers along an emotional journey of self-discovery. The film documents Rocky Braat, who leaves everything behind in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to live with and care for HIV- infected children in an Indian orphanage. The film was profanely impactful, it gave me a new perspective on life and what I should truly strive for. Life is not about having the nicest car, wearing the trendiest clothes, or making the most money, it is about helping and…

"My conscious won 't let me go shoot … some poor, hungry people in the mud for big powerful America. And shoot them for what? They never called me nigger; they never lynched me.” Antagonistic, yet honest words from World Boxing Champion Muhammed Ali at his refusal to be enlisted in the U.S Army in 1967. Unlike the previous World Wars that were unquestioned as to America’s involvement; the Vietnam war, even from its onset is one that has held a contentious point of division among many in America.…

The Basterd In Us All Inglourious Basterds is the Quentin Tarantino directed 2009 movie starring Brad Pitt, Christoph Waltz, Melanie Laurent, and Eli Roth. The story centers around a unique Nazi-hunting unit within the US army known as the Basterds. The unit consists of soldiers who are of Jewish decent with a simple purpose: kill Nazis (and take their scalps as a trophy but that's more of a perk than anything else). The Basterds are led by Brad Pitt's Lieutenant Aldo Raine (or by his German name, Aldo the Apache) and include Eli Roth's Sergeant Donny "The Bear Jew" Donowitz, Gedeon Burkhard's Austrian-born Captain Wilhelm Wicki, and Til Schweiger's Nazi-turn-Nazi-killer Sergeant Hugo Stiglitz (amongst others).…

Flags of Our Fathers, directed by Clint Eastwood, is a film that is successful in portraying both a Native American and white soldiers as humans. Not only was Ira Hayes, a Pima Native American, one of the main characters, he was also a character with as much depth and humanity as his white counterparts. Although there are several moments of racial dialogues towards Ira from his superiors, it seems as though director Clint Eastwood is pointing to these scenes as flawed instead of simply leaving them as they are. Despite the heavy racist comments sprinkled throughout the film, the portrayal of Native Americans is progressive through the fact that they are depicted as humans, as they should have been before in films.…

The evolution of British Cinema has always heavily corresponded with other movements in philosophy, literature, music, painting, and architecture. As any cultural movement, it is distinctly ingrained its social counterpart. Gosford Park, a ‘quasi-Agatha Christie’ murder mystery, observes the upstairs view of guests of a stately homes, with tidbits and plot exposition of the guests and household’s family from the servants downstairs. To a great extent, the storyline acts as a commentary concerning the enormous wealth gap in Britain at the time, where class and breeding almost created two different races, the haves and have-nots. The depiction of palatial halls filled with prized artworks, servants hurrying to cook food, lay tables, serve beverages, wait by their side till the last cigar went out, created a sort of ‘top down’ view of Britain’s class system.…

The Die Hard series brings a new meaning in the very definition of action films. Die Hard with a Vengeance (1995) includes constant violent scenes as well as a series of threats of violence. In addition, as with all of the Die Hard films, the protagonist John McClane, a New York City cop played by actor Bruce Willis who seeks justice through his own means and his own rules of law. This movie takes a step further into the meaning of brutality and instead of individual combats like the previous movies in the series; this includes larger explosions and several public areas targeted by the villain in order to take revenge. Moreover, every movie is a properly timed sequel to another and this movie is heavily linked with what happened in the first…

Let us take a minute to step outside of ourselves and into an alien society that often goes hidden or forgotten. In this world, the habitants rarely experience the sunrise or sunset, nor do they hear the song of birds or the playful bark of a dog. As annoying as it might seem at first, these persons will never even hear the cry of a toddler as she begs for candy at the grocery store or the halfway-honk of a car horn from the elderly person whose car you almost hit. Those in this alien society never see, hear, touch, smell, or taste what many other citizens do; rather, they have their own unique set of experiences. This alien society is the United States inmate population, and rather than the sight of the sun or the sound of animal, they report spectacles of abuse alongside the cries of stabbing and rape victims.…
