We open up to an establishing shot where we see an employee, about mid-late twenties pass over a tray filled with McDonalds food to a young couple, casually dressed at the counter at a local McDonalds. Laid back, they’ve just popped out for an easy date night and to grab something to eat before the movies. Unable to wait, we cut to see him grab the box for a quick bite, but remembering the McDonalds, we cut quickly to see him rip off the sticker. Suddenly we notice a change in his expression from a hint of confusion to a full on beaming grin - he is excited, something has happened- his faces lights up. He is smiling from ear to ear. He’s won!!!

Suddenly all natural light disappears around him. Black. The whole store plummets

Suddenly a surge of delight spreads across his face - utter astonishment. He has ALSO found a prize: -h elping to reinforce the likelihood that everyone is in with a chance. Again the spotlights whirl into action and bolt through the McDonald’s Quiz arena, as if the heavens are opening, confetti and tinsel rain from the ceiling.

The boy lifts the sticker in the air, as his parents gather round, cheering him on, then parallel to this an assistant slides in with a moveable stage on which a lot of cool prizes are placed, among which there is a Nintendo Wii, a huge gift card with the title „Trip to Disney world Orlando“ and a couple of other smaller prizes. We’ve grown so accustomed to the jingles and colorful pictures associated with the advertisements for both fast food and junk food that we don’t even notice them anymore. Take the time to actually stop and pay attention to those advertisements. Notice how some commercials even have the power to stop children dead in their tracks and stare at the screen until the ad is over. In Jean Kilbourne’s essay “Jesus is a Brand of Jeans” she discusses the many different tactics that are used by advertisers in order to draw in consumers. According to Kilbourne many of those ads are actually directed towards children.…

Elections are vital in maintaining a democratic government, ensuring that the will of the collective people shall be represented by their elected officials. However, under certain forms of government, including that of the United States, individual liberties are protected from governmental legislation. This can create a strange predicament in which the will of the people conflicts with the rights of the individual, thus spurring debate as to which will take precedent. This conflict was the central cause of McDonald v. Chicago, in which laws formed by democratically elected officials were contested on the grounds of civil liberty infringement by individuals in the community. While the McDonald v. Chicago case was being reviewed by the Supreme Court in 2010, the laws in question were implemented approximately 30 years prior.…

I looked around me to see if there was any food that sounded good because I totally forgot to eat breakfast and heck, I had $30 on me that was for food anyways. I scanned the place—and the people that passed by— and saw a McDonald’s. I unzipped that first small compartment on my luggage and pulled out my $30 and walked over to the McDonald’s, leaving my luggage there because it was still in eyesight. The man—Tom— working asked me what I wanted in a non-enthusiastic voice and I replied, “Uh, hold on” while I squinted my eyes at the menu trying to see if breakfast was still available. He started to list off the items on the menu in a monotone voice, “We have the Egg McMuffin…” I cut him off, already knowing what I wanted and not really wanting to hear the entire McDonald’s menu read off to me like a Shakespeare’s play.…

I would visit Applebee’s again for several reasons; it is affordable, causal, and the food is really good. As a college student, the first thing that I consider before eating out is how affordable the place is. Compared to Olive Garden, I would say that this restaurant is a lot less formal, less costly, and a lower food quality. Overall, my experience was fun and enjoying because I felt relaxed sitting, laughing, and eating with my friends. When come back next time, I may try a dessert.…

I push open the hefty doors of the old Tennessee Cafe for the thousandth time. The warm aromas of fresh ground coffee beans and baked pastries contrast the sharp winter air outside. The popular fast food chain, McDonald’s, tends to carry a negative connotation to many people, but Eric Schlosser’s Fast Food Nation addresses how fast food has been “a revolutionary force in American life” (3). “Vintage McDonald's,” “New Dad,” “Grandmother and Granddaughter,” “Cha-Cha Slide,” and “Spiderman” are all examples of commercials that McDonald’s uses to show situations that are contradictory to the negative opinions of many. In the commercials McDonald’s wants to show families that they are their “trusted friend” (3). McDonald's accomplishes the “trusted friend” role with the use of ethos, pathos, and logos.…
