a) In the film ‘Amazing Grace’ there were multiple issues that William Wilberforce had to overcome. The main issue out of the ones in the film was his journey to convince the Parliament to abolish the slave trade. This was especially difficult as the members of parliament had their own ties to slavery. It was the primary income for many of the parliament members. It was also an issue for him because many large port cities relied on the slave trade to keep their economy going. Another issue that arose throughout the film was the development of Wilberforce’s illness. However this may have been one of the driving factors for his perseverance. Especially as the slave trade was only abolished three days before he passed away.
b) William Wilberforce worked very hard and with much dedication to achieve his goals. In 1783 Wilberforce presented his first petition to the parliament and then in 1787, along with Thomas Clarkson, they founded the Committee for the Abolition of the Slave Trade. Because of this there are more people than ever helping to end human trafficking. They use their resources, such as donations or social media to take a stand against this injustice and they serve as a public figure for those who have been/are exploited and held against their own will. One of the most prominent groups working on ending human trafficking in the US is a group called the Polaris Project. They are a very comprehensive group that push for stronger federal and state laws. They also operate a phone line that provides services and support for people who have been victims of human trafficking. They also work with these survivors to create and plan long-terms strategies to help abolish all forms of human
