Coney Island started as a small island and gradually grew into a vast tourist attraction. Coney Island’s Golden Age derived from its ability to unify the different social classes and its establishment of public theme parks.
Coney Island was discovered by Henry Hudson on September 1, 1609; although, it would not be until 1847 when Coney would be inhabited. Coney was divided into the chaotic west, full of thieves and prostitutes, and the organized east, which was occupied by three immense hotels and rich, well known families.
