Chapter Three: Filip Dujardin
Filip Dujardin is a photographer who has explored manipulation of photographs through Photoshop. Dujardin’s work is photographs of unrealistic and amazingly complicated buildings that have a very unique and different style to them (Decor). The photo to the left is an excellent example of what Dujardin’s work looks like, it has a very unique and real look, however because of the complexity and impossibly it is known that the building isn’t real. The use of color is interesting because there is a little splash of color in some spots, but most of the building itself has many different values of gray. This relates back to the developing of technologies, because without Photoshop it would be impossible to use 150 different photos to create one (Decor). There would be a limited amount of photos that could be combined together in the darkroom. Dujardin was inspired to create these impossible buildings because of his experience with Legos as a child. He enjoyed creating buildings that looked interesting, but weren’t at all possible to create in real life (Decor). The piece of Dujardin’s on the right, shows well the complexity of his pieces and the complexity of the angles and lines that he uses. This building, looks realistic because of the perfection that he has created using Photoshop, and the bringing of everything together. This photo, again uses significant form, and shape, to create an unrealistic building. Dujardin in this photograph visually creates a strong sense of unity, because even though it is totally unrealistic, the elements come together to create a piece which seems like it fits. The use of a monochromatic color scheme Dujardin allows the viewer to consider the possibly that the buildings may be real. Without this limited color scheme the piece wouldn’t have the sense of
