Driving to the airport was the best part. I was very excited but very sad at the same time. I was sad because this was the first vacation that I had ever been on before and I was sad that I would have to leave my pets. Driving was the best part because that meant we were getting closer to Florida. But knowing I was 5 at the time I started getting really antsy. When we arrived, I ran to the back of the car and grabbed my tiny Ariel suitcase. I was SO excited! I started jumping around yelling “ C’mon mom c’mon dad let’s go’ let’s go!” I ran into the massive building, clenching my tiny suitcase in my hand. I was ready to get on my first airplane. When it was time for the people to scan ourselves and our luggage, I walked over to the scanning belt and placed my luggage on the belt and walked through the scanner. I was nervous that I would make it beep when I walked into the body scanner. I then imagined that it was a magical portal that would bring me straight to Disneyland. I walked through. No beep. My parents did the same. No beep. Then, it was time to get our tickets and wait. By this point I was getting antsy and

There are many passages in Inkheart, written by Cornelia Funke, that the author helps me feel as if I am actually in the book, experiencing what the characters are. One way the author does this is by including figurative language. Funke uses figurative language that help the reader visualize and compare how something might look like given the examples. Similies can give a comparison that will help the reader see the scene that is going on. On page 31 it states, “On the right of the road a densely wooded slope fell steeply to the bank of a wide lake.…

Throughout this poem, Shel Silverstein uses alot of repetition, Which helps the reader pull out the main parts of the story. The parts that the author keeps making because it is important in the story. Silverstein continously uses the word once to show that he once did something. For example, he says "Once I smiled in secret at the gossip of the starlings" and he says "Once I understood each word the caterpillar said". He says that to show the reader he did that.…

In the poems ¨Huswifery¨ by Edward Taylor, and ¨To A Mouse¨ by Robert Burns, the universal theme is man vs. nature, while showing that they also share the themes to commit themselves and truly be devoted to what they want and, never take what they have for granted as well as persevere and push through the hard times. They show these using tragic and accepting tones, as well as figurative language. In “Huswifery” the theme of the poem is to commit yourself and to truly be devoted to something you desperately want. In “Huswifery” the speaker is devoting his whole entire life to God, because he has such desperation to to follow the Lord and become a part of his kingdom.…

Poet Gary Snyder once said “nature is not a place to visit, it is a home”. Poets Mary Oliver and Pablo Neruda felt the same way throughout their poems “Sleeping In The Forest” and “Ode To The Enchanted Light”. Each authors style their use of mood and figurative language. Both are similar in style because their moods show an amazement with nature. The author in “Sleeping in The Forest” is easy going through the whole poem, and literally sleeping in the forest as his thoughts float up to the sky.…

In "The Pie," a short story by Gary Soto, the narrator uses figurative language to lead the reader down a spiraling passage into spiritual guilt, stealing, and gluttony. For example, when the narrator states he knew enough about hell to stop him from stealing and that somedays he recognized the shadows of angels flopping on the backyard grass, and other days, the narrator, "heard far away messages in the plumbing that howled underneath the house," (Soto). The quote "far away messages in the plumbing that howled underneath the house," is an example of personification, giving the reader the idea that Soto is describing the plumbing, an inanimate, object, using living traits; referencing that the plumbing is screaming out to the narrator as the…

I have chosen Question One: Emile Bronte’s Wuthering Heights discuss how an attention to figurative language can help in an analysis of literary texts as I enjoyed reading the text and the many qualities that made it such an enjoyable read. When we read something we usually take it as it is but that is exactly what figurative language is not. When we read certain expressions or words with a different meaning it is known as figurative language which is different from literal interpretation. Figurative language goes beyond the meanings of the words that we read which give us, the readers a greater insight into the piece. There are many types of figurative language such as symbolism, metaphors and similes which are all seen in Emily Bronte's 'Wuthering…
