Figurative Language In Deathbeds

Deathbeds is a unique song, that’s uniquely written and portrayed. Oliver Sykes is amazing at conveying emotion in his lyrics and instrumental music. His lyrics and the way he uses his voice is so unique and moving. Listening to the song, you can clearly hear the pain in his heart by the words he uses to describe what he is thinking and feeling. Filled with the wonderful background singing, and all the instruments that make this song emotionally powerful, the song tells its own story.
He begins the song by singing about a girl he has a fascination for. He clearly can’t avoid her, or even wants to avoid her. He later realizes that this girl he has a fascination for cannot be good for him, and that at one point she will end up hurting him, though

“The life may leave my lungs, but my heart will stay with you.” No matter how you read this excerpt, these words powerfully hit you by just reading this with no real rhythm or beat. There isn’t a way to not read this and not connect some type of emotion with the lyrics. Even within the song, hearing the music, everything slows down as this is playing, there’s even a short pause. The music and the artist’s voice changes. At this point the sadness in the singer’s voice is realized. “The wave will pull us under” – Bridge, this is where both the girl and the initial singer acknowledge that their love for each other will pull them down to rock bottom, but they’ll always be together. The end of the bridge leads to a repeat of the chorus, almost reiterating how the singer feels about this girl, and almost reminding her that no matter what, he will always love her. I am a big believer in love and what the singer feels is coming from a deep spot in the heart. I feel like I personally am afraid to love and to be loved, this song is the perfect example why. Overall, this song means to me that love is a big emotional rollercoaster with many ups and downs. I have been in love before with someone who turned their back against me and hurt me so much. This song reminded me of my first love and everything we went through. I personally do not want to put myself through that kind of pain again. In my opinion it is emotionally draining. I believe that every young soul should experience life first alone and to find their selves first before putting themselves on emotional

Tyler explores ambiguity in order to better connect with his audience. He uses ambiguous lyrics to express an emotion that any person can connect to while still being capable of disclosing his personal memoir without losing the interest of viewers that may not understand his personal encounters. Lyrics symbolizing abstract ideas rather than stating then help involve viewers, “Love lifts you up and lets you fly…” (Tyler). The notion appears to be very clear and obtainable, but when cross-examined with Tyler’s history, the explanation of the lyrics becomes blurry and uncertain. Opposing the idea of grasping for unspoken meaning, other lines are to be taken exactly as they are addressed, “...you’ll never ever wanna come down” (Tyler).…

This song is an anti-suicide anthem. In this song, you can hear the artist singing from both sides of the of the spectrum. He sings and raps from both the perspective of a suicidal person and the perspective of the person on the line from the National Suicide Prevention Hotline. It shows that marriage can be corrupt and that cheating will cause a lot of person to your “significant other.” This song really is for anyone that has experienced or is going through a marriage or even just a relationship finding out that their significant other is cheating. Sam Smith must’ve gone through something very similar to depict this picture into this song. The pathos in this song is very strong.…

The story was sort of ignorant and a little critical of the author"s view of the other people at the funeral. He criticizes everyone he sees and what they do. Once you experience something of such great significance, it is hard to let that go and move on. This universal theme can be seen in both the song “Want You Back” by 5 Seconds of Summer, and the short story, “All Summer in a Day” by Ray Bradbury. In “Want You Back” the band sings about a girl whom they have left and will always want back. In “All Summer in a Day” the author tells about about students on Venus, who are in the absence of the sun and are grieving the loss of it too. In both of these selections, the band and the author use imagery and repetition to convey the theme.…

This song sounds like it’s about a person who fell in love with someone they had a fling with but they were too nervous to tell them. They tried to get away, “bought a ticket to the world” for different perspective, but a part of them was missing, missing the comfort that love brings. So many things in their mind they want to say, and that’s…

This song best represents me because it is all about enjoying your life to the fullest and just being plain crazy. This song tells people that we can make a change to the world if we just tried and stopped fretting about all the world's problems and try to solve them. If we all pitch in a try to help people, there would be no hate in the world and violence because we are helping everyone and being kind to one another like God wants us to. If we just got off of our T.V.s and computers and go out and enjoy to world then we would try to make the world clean again. This is what Young Volcanoes all about.…

I think if you take the chorus more literally, it's someone begging for salvation ("deathless death") despite the fact they know that the anti-gay gospel is a lie ("I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies") they go back to their vomit by worshipping in the church even when they speak against the church and the church treats them as outcast. He knows they take your insecurities and weaknesses and use it as a weapon against you ("I’ll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife") but he is still willing to give himself to the church ("good god let me give you my life"). Such a beautifully written song. I think at the very least it is about a person whose lifestyle (homosexuality) is in conflict with their religious beliefs and is causing them a crisis of faith. They can't reconcile this divine love they feel for someone with the fact that the church rejects it as…
