This is an example of personification as Tyler’s brain and hormones are giving the human like ability to go in reverse. This literally represents a conflict between Tyler’s brain and hormones and figuratively shows he is at time indecisive and doesn’t know what he wants.

Dramatic irony
I chose this quote as it is Tyler's thought process the Monday after the weekend he had turned Bethany down at a party. On this day Tyler doesn’t know what to expect and just hopes Bethany isn’t mad at him. This is dramatic irony because us as the readers know that Bethany is going to be mad at Tyler and everything isn’t fine like Tyler thinks it is. Along with these we know Tyler may not say something witty and clever. When nervous tyler doesn’t always say or act as he feel so the reader is able to infer that the interaction with Bethany will not be a good one. This literally represent tyler’s thoughts and figuratively relates to the negative events that are soon to come for
