Leila Atassi composes a brief article about how a fifty year old women recieves over nine-hundred thousand dollars because of age discrimination lawsuits by University Hospitals uploaded onto Cleveland.com. Gloria Parks was a 56 year old woman that worked at university hospitals up to 30 years. She claimed that Steve Diltz, her supervisor, constantly educated her while showing preference to the young women. Gloria often felt that Diltz’s wanted to fire her whenever he had the chance. “Diltz was waiting for an opperotunity to fire her, as he often wanted to ‘change the face of the department’” (Parks). Once Gloria Parks walked over to the pile of filed out charts, she accidentally reached for the wrong Charles Reed. After reading his paperwork, she escorted him to liver surgery instead of going to the blood work station like planed. Before his un-needed liver surgery, Park’s drew nine vials of blood from Reed as well as performing an EKG. Once another nurse consulted him on anesthesia, Reed immediately new that there was a discrepancy in the hospitals paperwork system. After the nurse asked him his date of birth, she also noticed that his paperwork was filed incorrectly. The nurse then consulted Parks. Once they confirmed the error, Gloria guided Charles Reed into the appropriate department were he could receive his necessary blood work. Charles Reed reported that not only did Gloria Parks fail to address the situation, but she also didn’t seem to pay any attention to what he was saying about his oncoming unnecessary liver surgery. “The hospital defended its decision, calling Parks’ error ‘extreme misconduct’ and said not only did parks fail to report the incident, but she also ignored the patient’s insistence that he was not there for liver surgery” (Parks).
