To What Extent Is FIFA Destroying The World Of Football?
Football is one of the world’s most popular and most played sport in the world. The contemporary history of this beautiful game dates all the way back to 1863 when the Football Association (FA) was formed in England. Football had already been introduced and played many years prior to the FA’s founding in 1863; however, October 26, 1863 was the date that eleven London football club and school representatives came together at a tavern with the goal of establishing the first ever governing body in football (“History”). As football spread, there started to be a need for a more large scale governing body in football that would unify the laws of the game and protect football from it becoming a business. The demand for a more worldwide football governing body was frankly only because the FA was situated in England and did not focus on football related issues outside of England. This call for organization in football led to seven delegates from Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland coming together and founding The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). FIFA was founded on the 21st of May in 1904, founded amidst the goal of creating the first statutes of football, protecting the integrity of football and fighting against corruption in the game (“Story”). Unfortunately, FIFA could not stop corruption from negatively influencing certain aspects of football. The ironic part is that FIFA, the football governing body that was established with one of its primary goals being to fight corruption, is at the heart of corruption problems in football.
