The world’s most powerful sporting organization is rife with corruption, says U.S. law enforcement authorities who have indicted FIFA officials. A British journalist who exposed FIFA’s corruption was interviewed by CBS news on 60 minutes. Andrew Jennings started investigating FIFA 20 years ago. He followed some of the top executives and uncovered that bribery was a common form of practice within the organization. FIFA’s purpose is to regulate and promote the most popular sport in the world: international football or soccer. Instead, FIFA has been operating as an organized crime for the past 24 years, and the center of attention was all about the selection. Choosing the event location and choosing who got the rights to broadcast was the main idea for FIFA’s executive committee as long as the trade off was in the millions.

People did not want to accept or hear what Jennings had to say about the corruption in FIFA. When the competition for the 2018 World Cup was taking place, London was competing and when they didn’t win, the British people blamed Jennings and regarded him as a traitor. He was fearless, blunt and did not care for the sport other than to say the truth. In 2009 he finally received his vindication when the FBI asked for his help. The FBI was investigating Chuck Blazer at the time, he was the only American on FIFA’s executive committee. He travelled with world leaders, ate in the finest restaurants and managed to run up 29 million dollars on his black American Express card. He made himself vulnerable by documenting his lavish lifestyle on his blog and forgetting to pay his taxes which lead to an IRS investigation. After Blazer’s arrest, the FBI gave him an ultimatum; either go to jail or cooperate and wear a wire to support the investigation. The investigation went on for years and Blazer’s cooperation helped indict FIFA
