Field Experience at Wildwood and Ernest Manning My cohort of ten was assigned to visit two schools over a two-week period with a full week dedicated to each location. The two schools were Wildwood elementary and Ernest Manning high school and while their relative closeness to one another would suggest that some Wildwood students may eventually be at Ernest Manning, they are opposites in terms of their status, how they carry themselves, and what they believe to be most important for students. Wildwood elementary is an old school as observed from its small and outdated architecture. Classes are small and at times claustrophobic, especially when packed with 20-25 of the nearly 600 students making it difficult if not impossible to navigate the…

Performing ethnographic fieldwork can be challenging, especially when it comes to building rapport with your subjects. Often times the subjects of the research may feel intimidated, judged or like they won’t be understood when being interviewed. In order to get the best results from their research, fieldworkers need to make sure their subjects feel comfortable in sharing all aspects of their life in regards to what they are studying. Anne Fadiman and Joshua Reno both work to build relationships with the people they study through participant observation to gain trust and get an inside look into their social and cultural worlds.…

Introduction My task was replicating the experiences a seventeen-year-old male with Becker Muscular Dystrophy (BMD) could encounter. As a part of the experience, the task requires me to consider that BDM is an ailment that the principal effects are characterized by progressive muscle weakness and wasting much like Duchenne (Lister Hill National Center for Biomedical Communications, 2016). BMD is brought on by a X-linked mutations of the dystrophin gene (Mah et al., 2014).…
My Semester Project will consist of two musical pieces, one representing the journey that individuals with tuberculosis from Peru go through, and the other the journey that individuals with tuberculosis from the United States go through. The former will end in death, and the latter in a recovery. The different stages will be the initial stage pre-diagnosis, followed by being diagnosed with TB, then holding out hope that the TB will be cured, leading ultimately to the demise/recovery. These two different endings are meant to bring attention to the social injustice that exists among countries in relation to tuberculosis. There are many more fatal cases of tuberculosis in Peru than in the US due to the patients’ abilities to acquire the proper medication necessary to treat TB.…

The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health recommends that assistive devices be used when the weight exceeds that limit (Zwerdling, 2015). Studies suggest hospitals lifting, turning, and repositioning are usually performed manually because of lack of assistive device. Nurses should use their judgement when it comes to lifting patients and ask for help when needed. Nurses could possibly harm their patients or themselves if they lift the patient without any…
All around the county from sunny Spring Hill to rural Brooksville, Gulf Coast Academy (GCA) is the best middle school option for me because it offers a very unique hands on science and technology program. The Field Activity Program (FAP) is amazing because I get to learn through field experience in addition to classroom instructions. I am very interested in science, math and technology. GCA offers a very structured and challenging curriculum that will enhance my learning experience and give me a good solid foundation for High School. I adapt and thrive well in a disciplined learning environment and GCA offers this along with small class sizes.…
