This local business sells frozen yogurt, shaved ice, dippin’ dots, t-shirts, and ice cream. By touring this business, the students can understand the economics behind a business and goods that it sells. This field trip would provide a real-world example of goods that are sold, but also real-world examples of who the producers and consumers are in this business and how the people working at this business do so because they need to earn money. This field trip allows the students to get a real-world example of economics. During this field trip the students could tour the business, talk with the employees and owners, and then have an opportunity to purchase some frozen yogurt and become a consumer. This field trip can also connect to math, whenever paying for the yogurt because they charge $0.53 per ounce. You can explain to the students how for every ounce of yogurt and toppings you have to pay $0.53. For example, if you get 3 ounces of yogurt, you would have to pay $0.53 + $0.53 + $0.53 = $1.59. This field trip would only cost however much for the students buy some frozen yogurt. The yogurt would be limited, and the students would only be able to get a certain amount of yogurt and 1 topping.
