“A discipline that starts with dialogue, the capacity of members of a team to suspend assumptions and enter into a genuine thinking together… (Larsen, McInerney, Nyquist, Santos, & Silsbee, n.d.).
Since the start of my field site rotation, I have been doing my field site experience with the United States Army Public Health Clinic here on the island of Oahu. As I have noted before, this clinic is unique in that the population that it serves are military service members and military retirees, their families, and the Department of the Army civilian employees. Two-way communication is evident in this organization, and thus should be in all organizations for success to be accomplished. And whether the ultimate goal has been met or not, a lot can still be learned from it throughout the whole entire process.

Team learning actually starts with dialogue. However, even with dialogue, there are three conditions that would be necessary for it to occur. As cited by Larsen, McInerney, Nyquist, Santos, & Silsbee (n.d.), these conditions identified by David Bohm, a physicist, are as follows: all involved must withhold any assumptions they may have; all involved must respect each other as colleagues; and a facilitator should be identified, in which their job would be to keep the framework of the dialogue grounded until all involved has developed the other two conditions. Learning is a skill that can be learned with practice gained through dialogue sessions. A dialogue that is strategic is built on an operating principle, in which stakeholders would already have the creative means to deal with challenging situations should they arise, as well as anyone else

These methods included active listening and as a trainer I would have to demonstrate these practices to the employees. In part to active listening, it’s important to probe which we also covered to show that you’re legitimately interested in what the other person had to say. This was also important because again, we wanted to accomplish as crystal clear as possible when it came to communication throughout the team and the only way to have that is to ensure everyone is paying attention to each other when they addressing concerns or issues the other employee might be having to allow for better chemistry throughout the…

My passion from the first day I walked on the naval base was to care for the men and woman who have so bravely gave his or her life for my freedom, a decade later it is still my desire; with the many years of critical care experience conjoined with the military nursing training, and an advance practice degree as a MHNP, I would be prepared to meet the patient assignments holistically to care for the military population. The goal is to work for the military as a government service (GS) provider; due to the long wait time for appointments and the shortage of advance practice mental health providers, it is imperative and my duty to complete the mission of becoming a MHNP. When I was a Sailor first deployed to Afghanistan I was sent with medical supplies similar to those used during Vietnam. While on a foot patrol we came to a group of locals who had a boy with a open skull fracture, I secured the gaping hole with my basic gear ment for Marines. We escorted him to an Army combat out post hospital where an Army doctor questioned my gear and asked if I'd like an upgrade. He left and came back with a new med bag filled with new updated gear and gave it to me, saying this should help you keep more folks alive. I feel my experience with collaboration in that situation was awsome through inter-service provisions of medical care to those in need.…

The transfer of learning is apparent in my practice, no longer do I just let groups form, and rather I strategically think about the desired outcome and select the best mix of personality types to approach the particular challenge. Understanding that the same group dynamics that work well in one set of circumstances may not service the organization well in all circumstances. If a situation is urgent and requires a rapid decision a group heavy on clarifiers might not be the best approach. Generally speaking again knowing the context of the challenge or opportunity may drive a different approach, if given the choice you want as diverse a group as possible to create as many different solutions as possible. I would say group process and projects I have been…

For my Service Learning Project I had the opportunity to volunteer with the HRSA Grant Project at the Collaborative Institute for Interprofessional Education and Practice also known as CI-PEP. This institute is located on the second floor of the nursing building. The mission of this institution is to provide biopsychosocial services to military families through counseling, supportive groups, and complementary and alternative medicine. This is a nursing, social work, psychology, and Veterans Center collaboration that focuses on holistic approaches to behavioral health. Because of the close proximity of the campus to one of the largest military bases, Fort Bragg, CI-PEP extends its services and programs to the community, including the military and their families.…

Following the first five days of field experience observations, the word that comes to mind is exhausted! I observed the instructor to always be constantly moving. I was shocked at how the educator always knew what was going on everywhere in the classroom. The statement having "eyes in the back of your head" was true. Teachers were getting their early, and staying late, and always seemed happy and ready to go the next day.…

Besides, important for consideration could also be the explanation of the backgrounds of the participants in order for everyone to understand the people he or she has to work with. In addition, the initial stage of the common work would require coming clear regarding the set goal and the ways that each of the team members could offer for reaching them. It would be essential to combine the knowledge of various people, and this could be accomplished by referring to brainstorming or other similar group activities aimed at finding a consensus.…
