For my Field Study Day I volunteered in a great teacher's third grade classroom. I won't forget the enthusiasm of the students when their teacher told them that I was going to be helping out for the day. The first thing that I did was introducing myself and saying three things about me. The teacher then came to me and explained how the day was going to go. The plan was to start with math then move on to reading before resses started. This was my favorite aspect of the day because I got to watch them follow along and the excitement of the kids that wanted to get picked to read next. I got to listen to them helping each other figure out answers to the questions about the book. They were also telling each other where they found those answers while in their table groups. I told them how useful it is to practice here because of how many times I use it now. The rest of the day I helped the kids work through thing from math to problems at the …show more content…
When I volunteered at the school some of the people there ,such as the students, parents, staff, and other volunteers, witnessed me experience something different and it might encourage them to volunteer. With all of the commotion they had when i was helping they not only learned about academics but i could have motivated them to volunteer someday as well. According to pointsoflight.org “Volunteering helps to foster greater trust among citizens and developing norms of solidarity and reciprocity that are essential for stability”. I think that this quote means that If your community members or even citizens of the U.S see you participating and volunteering to help others you will gain trust and be thought of as more responsible to them. Volunteering also can help point out some of the problems that are in your community. Me volunteering may cause the students and parents who saw me to try and come together and solve their own community

Volunteering not only helps socially in our communities, but also economically. I believe it helps economically because we could contribute to getting homeless people back in the workforce. In addition, many places that help people in need are more often than not on strict budgets, and I believe if people volunteer than perhaps those locations or agencies wouldn’t have to spend as much money on employees and instead have many rotating volunteers, this could also allow them to use funds for other urgent matters. According to the Corporation for National and Community Service, 61.8 million individuals in the United States contributed 8 billion hours of volunteerism in 2008 alone.…

I have spent time volunteering in my community but not as much as I planned to. I had high expectations for myself in volunteering at so many places but when the time came, I wasn't able to because there was either a conflict with the schedule, location or transportation. But, in the few places I have volunteered, like the event Life is living I loved the feeling after I completed it. It made me feel accomplished, productive and important because I was making a difference in the world. In my current job, we value the opportunity in giving back to the community which has taught me the importance of why we should volunteer, how we should and when.…

One of the activities I do that is substantial to me is volunteering as a Kettle Host during Winter for the Salvation Army. Through Christmas Kettles, I collect donations from the society to help give back to the less fortunate in our community. What volunteering for the Salvation Army has taught me is that even the smallest effort can make a tremendous impact. When I first started off as a volunteer, I did not feel motivated enough to believe what I was doing would truly have an impact. I had this mindset which led me to believe that the happenings in our community did not concern me, although, I began to have a change of opinion as I kept volunteering.…

An elderly woman who got to take part in a high school community service project states, “Many think that volunteering is all about what you give. But what catches you by surprise is how much you receive in return.” This demonstrates why many people do not feel that they should give back because they do not believe the benefits that they can get from it as well. Consequently, when creating that feeling of happiness and satisfaction in someone else’s life, it comes back to the person creating it. Volunteering to help someone get tutored, help the handicapped, involve themselves with a program like Meals on Wheels, certain environmental work, etc., not only does one gain from that, but one’s community has been helped because of them.…

As a student of the college, I feel we should do this, because helping others is so important. One of the problems with society today, is that people do not know how to give to others.
