A condition in which the muscles and nerves in the body only deteriorate. At the age of 23, he has been prescribed and taken more narcotic medication than anyone could think of, and seen more doctors than an average person may see in a lifetime. I have seen him at his lowest point in life, where he has lost the desire to move on with life. Hearing this, my younger brother’s approach towards his life has completely changed for the worse. His self-esteem, ambitions, dreams, everything has dropped. He feels he is incapable of accomplishing anything he desires now, and doesn't understand why this is happening only with him, while his other siblings are perfectly healthy. Growing up with a sibling so close and then seeing them in so much pain, distress, and not being able to help them, has been the biggest test of my life. Through my undergraduate years in psychology, I had learned a lot about mental health services and counseling for people dealing with life challenges such as illnesses. Using my education and skills I have developed, I was able to help my brother get support through counseling and pain management services, without the sole response of medication. Every psychology class I have taken has given me a different perspective from which to view human thought, emotion, and behavior. The condition I saw my brother in, inspired me to look deeper into the realm of counseling and psychology that it has developed into a vehicle for my passion for learning about counseling psychology to a master’s degree
