From the day I stepped on campus at Bryant University I knew there was something special about this place. This place wasn’t like anything I’d ever experienced before. Growing up in the suburbs of Philadelphia, I attended a large public high school, with over 1,000 kids in my class. Based on my experience in a large high school, I assumed the only logical progression for me was to attend a large public state university. I assumed I would join all of my high school best friends at one of the state schools. However, my sophomore of high school, field hockey entered the picture and everything changed. I started to get good at field hockey and I became hooked. I was spending close to thirty hours a week at field hockey and it started to pay off. …show more content…
In China I had the opportunity to start over. I was given a fresh start in a new country, surrounded by people that didn’t know me and had zero expectations of me. China was a life changing experience for me. I decided to take the lessons I learned in china back to America with me and I decided to start over. The spring of my sophomore year I dropped my business classes, changed my major, took a month of from field hockey and focused on doing the things that truly made me happy. I took classes that I was truly interested in. I started going to yoga, I made time to talk to old friends, and for the first time in seven years I picked up a book and read it for fun. Much to my surprise, I found out that I actually love reading. Within the first week of being back at school I had read three new books. I was enjoying the books I was reading, but more importantly, I was reading them because I wanted to. The past few weeks have been great at Bryant; however, I have realized that the lifestyle I am currently living at Bryant is not maintainable. If I stay at Bryant I will eventually have to take more business classes. I will have to go back to field hockey, and as a result, I will most likely be giving up the yoga and reading that I did in my free

When it comes to one single object that I care about more than any other, it would have to be the chain necklace my father gave me before I left for school. At the time, I did not quite understand the depth of the meaning behind it, but there have been times that I rely on it to get me through my day. Two of the most important components in my life are family and hockey. This chain brings them both together and reminds me what I’m striving for. I was a naive fifteen year old that was leaving the family and life I was used to.…

    • Hi Stacey, I think you are completely right when you said “Anything can happen, and all we can do is educate our children and teens on safer ways to do the sports they love”. I couldn’t agree more. Its sad when parents don’t allow their kids to play sports because they are to worried about the consequences that they don’t see the up side to playing sports. Kids and adults can learn so much from a simple game of soccer yet parents and even adults are scared to take the risk’s that come with playing the sport. I think if more parents had the mentality that you and your husband share a lot more kids would be out on field playing sports.…
