The Catholic University of America provided a solid foundation for my future. I was immersed in a challenging nursing program, surrounding myself with students that aspired to be in the same career field. My clinical rotations exposed me to a variety of cultures and illnesses. While playing field hockey, I immediately began to value the importance of being a team player, gaining leadership skills as one of the team captains for my junior and senior campaigns. As a nurse, I have had the privilege to work in a variety of cities with different types of hospitals, exposing me to various types of patients and challenging situations. With each experience, I have found that taking care of the pediatric population has helped shape me into the person I am today. I am passionate about my career and caring for the Pediatric population. While practicing as a nurse, I find myself consistently asking the doctors and nurse practitioners about their experiences, differential diagnoses for the patients we care for, options for the plan of care, and various best practices. In sharing experiences and discussing their individual thought processes, I continue to feel a strong passion and desire to learn more. As I value patient-family interaction and have established strong assessment skills with the ability to prioritize care, I feel as though becoming a Nurse Practitioner would be the perfect fit for me. After completing the Nurse Practitioner Program, I would love the opportunity to begin my career as a Nurse Practitioner in a Pediatric Emergency

Growing up in the suburbs of Philadelphia, I attended a large public high school, with over 1,000 kids in my class. Based on my experience in a large high school, I assumed the only logical progression for me was to attend a large public state university. I assumed I would join all of my high school best friends at one of the state schools.…

One time where I had to be a leader and help others out was when my field hockey team and I were facing our biggest opponent of the season; Columbus Academy. The whole entire game was an upfield battle as both teams were very skilled and kept each other on their toes. As the game went on, I saw that many of the girls on my team were becoming very frustrated, as the hard work they were putting in got shot down by the other team. When it reached the end of the game, the score had been a tie; 0-0. This resulted in an overtime 7 vs. 7 game.…

In this role, I look forward to truly getting to know the patient as a whole, as well as working on a closer level with both them and their families to implement primary prevention strategies aimed to keep children out of hospitals whenever possible. This whole clinical experience has given me great insight into child health and the variety of nursing roles that exist in both acute care and community. At the beginning of the semester, our lecture focused strongly on growth and development, specifically the milestones at each stage of life (infants, toddlers, preschoolers etc.). This was very helpful when it came to working with the children at Piitoayis Family School, as there was great diversity in growth and development amongst all these children. Some of them were not reading at grade level or behaving in ways that would be appropriate for their age, whereas others were right on track. I believe by learning the “norms” for growth and development, it made it easier for us to recognize…
