Field Hockey Interview

At Burnaby Mountain, Secondary School sports are a major part of who we are and give us all a diverse personality. This season there a variety of sports such as, cross country, soccer, field hockey, and volleyball. Field hockey is a new and fun sport for girls all ages. This is a great way to get active and is a prominent place to do so. I had the pleasure of interviewing a member of a past national Canadian team, our very own coach Ms. O’Reilly
Q: What is your prior experience with field hockey?
A: I played all throughout high school and university. I was trained overseas in Holland. I was on the Canadian National team. I currently play in the premier division.
Q: Why do you coach field hockey?
A: I wanted to bring it to the school, and since I have experience and knowledge I thought why not take advantage of this. This provides opportunity for kids that don’t play mainstream spots to get involved, also there is a level playing field as everyone is only starting out.

We played in the cake tournament and we placed fifth, commendable efforts girls!! The team had an irreplaceable energy and it was unlike any other team I had seen so far. This is one of the amazing qualities of all Burnaby Mountain sport teams. While I was watching, I saw some amazing plays by several girls. Chloe Jung, Emelia Marian and Ruby Beach had quick, powerful and controlled serves, their serves were low which is a key aspect in serving. I also saw a series of great bumps by Janice Tang, they were controlled, powerful and gave the girls time to plot their next hit. In addition, I witnessed a powerful spike by Michelle Kitching, this gave the other time no time to respond and was an amazing play overall. Also, I saw a fantastic set by Stephanie Pacheco, this got the ball over the next in a powerful and rapid way. Keep up the good wok athletes!! We wish the best to all teams. GO
