Field Experience Video Analysis

The field experience video that was my favorite was the Tim Bedley critical thinking videos. I really like this videos because the teacher keeps the students engaged and applies a problem based learning technique to help solve a problem that many the students have been struggling with. The problem that was at hand was the class was not reaching consensus on their work. To solve this problem, the teacher gets the students in a group and tells each group needs a table leader, time keeper, and somebody to record the information by writing the ideas down. The teacher then listens to the student’s responses and clarifies any misunderstandings. This type of technique helped to solve the problem within the classroom and gets the students engage in problem solving and critical thinking.
Another thing I enjoyed about the video was the classroom management techniques. One way he shown classroom management was with the clap and teach, which helped keep the students focused. Another way he did good classroom management was making sure all the student focused on him when he was explaining directions. The teacher began by giving each group to figure out how to solve the problem. Once time was up each group would suggest their ideas and one student was at the board writing the ideas. The teacher only intervened if the idea was unrealistic and he would explain why could not do that. After the students decided on what they wanted, the teacher had final say. This type of project really helps to give the students something that they have done for themselves. They are more likely to follow the rules that they created because they created the rules. Overall, letting the students decided on the type of solution of the problem was a good idea to get the students
