Field Experience Reflection

Throughout my three years at Wartburg I have had many experiences to go and work in a classroom. These experiences in the school have helped me hone my skills and helped me learn some things I need to improve upon. I have found that my strengths are with communication, and reflection and professional development. The skills that I still need to work on and improve are learning environment and assessments. When I go into the classroom my first goal is to make sure there is an open door of communication between the teacher and I. The field experience teachers are the first place for learning. They have all the experience and are willing to share lessons with you. Because of my willingness to communicate, on most reviews I have gotten they say

Field Experience at Wildwood and Ernest Manning My cohort of ten was assigned to visit two schools over a two-week period with a full week dedicated to each location. The two schools were Wildwood elementary and Ernest Manning high school and while their relative closeness to one another would suggest that some Wildwood students may eventually be at Ernest Manning, they are opposites in terms of their status, how they carry themselves, and what they believe to be most important for students. Wildwood elementary is an old school as observed from its small and outdated architecture. Classes are small and at times claustrophobic, especially when packed with 20-25 of the nearly 600 students making it difficult if not impossible to navigate the…

Field Experience Working as a Para educator in the Mt. Pleasant School District had opened my understanding about how important it is the job of a teacher. As I observed Mrs. Ensminger performed her duties, it has confirmed my conviction that a teacher is a teacher because they do not see their duties as a job it is a calling. Mrs. Ensminger, a level 1 special education teacher, is already at school no later than 7:15 am. Before school even starts she is already coordinated with core class teachers what she need to work on every individual student under her care. First period in her class is Science.…

This week at my field agency, I took part in the following activities including; attended team meetings, observed the Shepard Pratt session with a nurse practitioner who is also the program director of the Health Department. I found the Tele psychiatric session interesting, because I have not had the opportunity to sit in and observe how that works. This session might just have been an observation, but it was essential for me because I feel like I need to experience a majority of activities/services done or offered at the Health Department. In addition to the observation, I took a referrer via telephone as well as conducted an individual/ electronic clinical assessment (Intake).…

At Minnehaha Academy the week before spring break is devoted Cultural Field Experience, where students choose a community service assignment that interests them and will lend a new perspective. In my sophomore year I spent two weeks exploring Austria, Germany, and Italy and learning about the history, culture, and art of each Western European country. A variety of practical lessons also presented themselves throughout my travels. Navigating the winding streets of Italy taught me to rely on all my resources and be confident in my decisions.…

A recent clinic meeting illustrates the potential contributions of my experiences to the class. Our doctor had just finished the buprenorphine prescriber training, and we were planning the logistical aspects of managing her suboxone panel. She laid out the differences between suboxone and methadone, explained each of our roles in care coordination, and presented patient cases that served as models for common situations. She described the patient attributes that predicted successful suboxone maintenance, and together the care team developed processes for the program like how urinalysis screenings would be carried out. During research for the meeting, I learned buprenorphine alone was usually not covered by Medicaid.…

Criterion 4: Demonstrated Wider Learning from Wider Field Experiences Together with my husband and twin boys, we spent three and a half years exploring the world as a family on our sailing catamaran "Por Dos", from June 2012 to November 2015. We had fantastic experiences on our adventure exploring the culture and countries of the Atlantic, Caribbean, Mediterranean and South Pacific. During those three and a half years I home-schooled my twin sons through grades 6, 7 and 8. I will describe in detail my experience on developing the curricula and my teaching grades for my sons for those three grades and how those experiences align with QCE standards in the PLP task 2 at the end of this year. The evidence I have for the collegiate/peer feedback is the comment I received from the mentor teacher on my self-evaluation form, the self-evaluation form for the self-assessment/reflection, and 3 students surveys from each of the three classes that I taught for the student feedback (see Appendix 1). Area of strength An area of strength for my teaching practice would be the different teaching methods and multiple forms of literacy that I’ve included in the lessons, as I have been trying to do a different activity for each lessons, or includes visual, music, and videos in the lessons to give students different approaches to the contents. My mentor teacher commented the different tasks as “interesting and useful” for the students. The students…

Tuesday, Today started of a bit slow. I arrived at my practicum, and my field instructor was running a little late. The church is constantly under tight security and since I am only going to be here for ten weeks there no need for me to receive a key. So I waited for my supervisor in my car in the parking lot in the back of the church. He told me to arrive at eight o look, but he always at least five minutes late.…

When I reflect on this semester and my practicum experience, the first thing that comes to my mind is motivation and drive. This is the first time I have actually felt comfortable enough to want to be in the classroom all day, everyday. This semester opened up my eyes in many different ways, and if anything, made me fall more in love with teaching and working with these students. After this practicum experience, I bring a new gift with me and that is confidence. I feel at easy in front of a group of students and truly feel that if my CT made me get up and help her teach, I could figure it out.…
