1. This project was a great experience for Cinthya and I. We got to go to her field placement and do our own lesson about discrimination and prejudice in school. It was very eye opening to see how students mostly anglo students knew so much about discrimination and what is wrong and right. They were very respectful and knew that discrimination should not be tolerated any where because everyone should be treated with respect. This young children made us have hope in the future of the nation because if this children are being educated this means that more children will be more tolerant to other people that are different and have different beliefs to be around them.
The purpose of this project was to educate second graders about the different

Going to my field experience where most of the students are Latinos but what I have observed most teachers are Anglo white teachers. I know that will be also my case when I start working as a teacher because that is the demographics of Oregon and I will like to stay in Oregon. I want to be in a school like the one we did our project on the Dual Immersion Spanish school and I know that because the students are learning a second language they will be more tolerant to other classmates because I experienced this when I did my project. The students were very open about the topic and the host teacher was helping us and trying to get everyone to be heard because too many hands were going up at once.
I want to be a good teacher that listen to her students and makes the classroom a safe environment where children can feel welcome to express their opinions and feelings. I would like to know my students and let them know they can trust me and that I am there to teach them but also to help them with anything they need. Cinthya’s host teachers has the environment in her room because when I enter the room one of the young girls told the teachers there was someone in the door and she welcomed me. She was very nice and helpful to our lesson we had

After watching all of the available videos for the Field Experience Summary, I chose High School Biology, Part 2 as my favorite video. I selected this video because the teacher displays great knowledge of her students, she has provided wonderful materials for her activity, and she has the standards and objectives clearly stated on the whiteboard. In addition to the reasons previously stated, I chose this video because she covered a topic in my subject area. What initially intrigued me to watch the High School Biology, Part 2 video, is that I knew I might gain some insight into what I will be teaching in three short years. At the beginning of the video, it shows the teacher walking over to a male student and talking briefly with him before…

The promotion of cultural diversity and individual difference can increase students’ self-concepts whilst developing respect and understanding for all people. By placing a value and acknowledging mutual respect for all individuals, avoidance of racial stereotyping begins, it also enables racist comments and misconceptions to be replaced with factual information (Craven, 2011). By providing educators with greater understandings based on fact and truth empowers…

I did also find it far more educational to see the experiment carried out, rather then just reading about it. The students quickly formed opinions based on their classmates in the matter of a second, solely because the teacher said they were not as “good” as them. My wife grew up on a reservation, in upstate NY. She often said in the early 90’s other kids didn’t like her, were not allowed to her as it was on a reservation and I never could comprehend how there would be any type of discrimination between children this small, this experiment showed that children can easily be taught racism by the adults in their life. 2.…

The teacher, Jack Marcum and I were the only non-native Spanish speakers in a class of about 25 students. From my observation and experience in the classroom I think it is fair to say that the statistics on both language and ethnicity, accurately represent the student population of Harrisonburg High School. Knowing what we do about the diversity within the school, it is pivotal that equality and equity are of utmost importance to teachers. It is easy to have prejudice, but as teachers we must accept everyone and value how we are able to celebrate multiple languages, cultures, traditions, holidays, and religions. Developing learning environments that are conducive to learning for everyone can sometimes be hard…

My experience with the Domestic Abuse Council of Volusia County is one that I will remember forever. I begin my field experience in January not knowing what to expect nor what would be expected of me. I knew that this experience would help me to evolve professionally, however, I did not know that it would help me to evolve in a social setting. During my time with the Domestic Abuse Council (DAC), I received the opportunity to meet great employees, numerous courageous survivors, and very bright children. It was not an expectation of mine that the survivors would enter into the shelter and leave the shelter so frequently.…

This week during my field experience, I got the amazing opportunity to go to Fort Yates and visit the shelter down there. I went down there with an advocate who has her license in social work. That was an amazing opportunity because I learned a lot from being able to talk to her about social work. I found it interesting that when discussing what we learned during college, that there was overlap despite going to different colleges.…

I, Kylie Medlin, a second semester Junior at Campbell University, propose that my 200 hour supervised field experience in an off-campus setting that is appropriate to my course of study, be completed at Cape Fear Valley Rehabilitation Center under Rhonda Moore-Sweitzer OTR/L. It is my goal to become an Occupational Therapist by attending a Master’s Program upon graduation. I will begin the application process to the Occupational Therapy schools starting July 1st, when the first application becomes available. The three programs that I am applying to are East Carolina University, Lenoir-Rhyne University, and The Medical University of South Carolina. This internship will provide opportunity to learn more about the field of Occupational Therapy, allow me to practice applying what I have been learning in the classroom, and will allow me to further my love for this field by watching patients return to their prior level of function and normal activities of daily life because of undergoing Occupational Therapy.…

My Field Experience: Connections to Educational Psychology My first day at Wood’s Mill was October, 13 I didn’t know what to expect. I was a bit nervous because I had not done my homework on the facility and simply chose it because of the location. When I drove up and saw that it was in a mobile home, I prejudged. I met Ms. Notice the Lead Instructor who placed me in a class with people ranging in ages from 17 to well over 50 years of age.…

Field Experience Report I decided to go to a seventh grade class on two separate days, April 6th and April 7th to do my field experience observations. The four different classes I observed are part of a school that is located in the lower side of the county of Otsego, New York. The city where the school is located is also known as “City of Hills”. The location of the school is hard to describe because it is located in the middle of nowhere.…

They will see that you as the teacher are too different and come from a different background. I remember a professor here at UHCL telling us that sometimes you have to tell little white lies to the students when it comes to these subjects because these students need to hear that you’ve experienced that level before and that you are OK. I found one part fit me well in this article, “As many as 80% of teachers did not feel prepared for various challenges that diversity presented within their classrooms” (pg. 25). This is a shocking number. I would think that the majority of teachers would feel confident about the subject and how to introduce it to the classroom.…

    Field Work Reflection

For Field Work Term this year, I went to New York City to work for I’m From Driftwood, a nonprofit LGBTQ storytelling archive. Primarily, I chose this internship because of the Huffington Post articles that I would be responsible for, which I did find worthwhile. I knew ahead of time that I’m From Driftwood was a small operation: consisting of its founder and board members that would scramble to find new opportunities and contacts to use for their events. There was no office space for the company, so most people worked from home or various other spaces around the city. So for the most part the internship consisted of me living alone in an apartment, while waiting for an assignment each day to do for my supervisor, the founder of the company.…

Comforting This may sound like an odd Guiding Principle, however, comfort is an important part of the learning process. I want to be a teacher that students feel comfortable with, meaning that they can bring problems to me or that they do not fear raising their hand in my class. If students are uncomfortable with their teacher learning will be much more difficult. I want students to always feel comfortable around me, not scared or anxious.…
