1. Mrs. McCarty had professionalism because she always dressed appropriate and acted as a teacher should. For example she would also be on time getting to different places and finishing lessons on time. She respects all of her colleagues and always had a professional attitude. This gave me examples to follow while I was there and for the future.

2. Mrs. McCarty also had confidentiality because if there was ever an issue with a child she would make sure only those that needed to know the information did, and that no other students were around to listen. This reminded me how important it is to keep student’s information only to the people that need to know it.

1. I think I made improvements in cultural competence because there were so many students with different cultural backgrounds. I was never really around any diversity before so, now that I have I can reduce my own biases, which I was able to do in this field experience. I couple of students had only been in the United States for a year or two and I assumed they would not much English. After this field experience I realized this was not true, one was excelling in English.

I also think I improved with collaboativeness. If I saw something with a student I shared it with the teacher or teacher’s aide instead of internalizing it. One student was doing really well with her numbers and I shared with the teacher that I did not think she needed to be in my number recognition group

Throughout the Capstone Project, I have learned that college is expensive and being an Early Childhood Educator might be something I really want to be. It would be better for me to go to a two-year technical school, and then transfer to a four-year college. This process would allow me to save money so that I will not be paying student loans for many years. I have learned what it takes to become a teacher, and I am highly interested. The characteristics a teacher must have are patience, self-control, creativity, and leadership skills.…

Personal Philosophy I believe that all children are unique and bring their own knowledge and experiences to any educational environment. I believe the early childhood environment is a place for children to be free agents to; develop, learn, grow and express themselves, while having the confidence and respect they as a person are entitled to. Furthermore I also belie that all children have the right to learn and their learning be abundant with experiences, knowledge and quality, as well as feeling a sense of belonging to their community and learning environment. These beliefs are important to my teaching and my philosophy of early childhood eduction.…

Educators know all children can learn, although not at the same level. It is common that without early intervention, a child may fall between the cracks, in specific children developing socially and emotionally. Schools have begun exploring teaching techniques that can be used in classrooms, with all children. Frederick Douglass once said, “If there is no struggle, there will be no progress.” Utilizing this rationale, my students learn it is through the struggle, we as a community, will progress together. Despite holding a Masters in Early Childhood Education with an ESOL and Political Science endorsement from Georgia State University, it has been my time in the classroom that has allowed me to gain first-hand experience in maintaining control of classroom, experimenting with diverse teaching techniques, and supporting students of various ages in their education matriculation. Two of my greatest strengths as a teacher is integration and differentiation. Scholars in my class learn within their zone of proximal development and can generate connections…

Developmentally appropriate practice is the process of deciding what is best and more appropriate for children, based on their individual age and stage of development. This includes discipline, food, scheduling, and communications. From my experience, children are capable of learning advanced concepts at an early age and although it is vital to select content that matches the cognitive capacities of students, undoubtedly students can benefit from more in depth material. My sons were taking high school classes starting in 6th grade. By the time my son went to high school, he had 6 high school honors classes.…

When people think of a good teacher they think of one that is nice, encouraging, trusting, and many other adjectives. Unlike most people, who change their mind on the career they want, I knew from the start that I wanted to be a teacher. I knew I wanted to be a teacher since I was young because I had a teacher that I had a close relationship with and made me love school. Question 2: “What would a classroom for young children look like that promotes an appropriate environment for creative activities? When walking into an early childhood classroom, one would hopefully see a classroom that is divided into different subject areas and play areas, such as; the science area, the math area, the language area, the block area, the dramatic play area and an art area. All of the different areas of a classroom should be used in a way that children can use the tools and materials to think creatively and have a way that they should be able to express themselves. Children are unique individuals who are interested in learning about the world around them and should be able to let their creative ideas flow without the fear of being told no by their teachers. So, in order for a child to be creative inside of the classroom, what must the classroom look like in order to achieve this goal?…
