The goal would be to have professional development start before the school year and continue throughout the year during after school meetings. Rolling out an effective program will take time and in order to ensure fidelity, we will need to continue to instruct the teachers on how to implement these new practices. I would plan out all professional development meetings dates ahead of time to avoid distraction or allow something else take precedence. The goal of professional development would be to analyze the data and use it to inform the structure for that specific meeting. It would be best practice to pilot the program first on a small-scale level. The worst is to roll out a new program on a large scale and be faced with numerous hurdles along the way that will only lead to more deviation and lack of support. This would be easier to control and to be able to highlight the best way to support teachers. Along with time to roll out the program; I would also allow time for teachers to evaluate the program and its effectiveness through a survey that would provide essential feedback. I would make sure that the teachers are made aware of where I would like them to be in the implementation process from year to year and what my goal would. On top of evaluating the students and have the teachers complete a program survey, it would be to the benefit of the program to have support staff going into the different classroom not to evaluate the teacher but to provide support and feedback. The intention would be by evaluation the program, it will improve the implementation of the program. This will need to be made clear for the teachers are well, so that they are more receptive to this non subjective eye and professional support. It will also add another layer of support for the teachers, especially for those who are having more difficulty. This type of constant interaction between the teacher and the SRBI support staff would allow for real-time data on where the program is deficient, who is and isn’t implementing the program and what changes can be applied to allow for success. Staffing will be a extensive problem if I am not able to fund the program. Trying to ensure fidelity in a program that is impacting a district the size of Danbury that is not funded will be difficult. This brings me back to the support of the district and school administrators, without financial support we would need to be more creative with what we have. One option could be to evaluate how we use our own time and determine how we can efficiently address the needs of the program and still see it through without full
