In Nothing to Envy, people were afraid to leave, they felt like they were betraying their leader, even though he was already dead. Many didn’t even speak about their plans to leave the country because they feared getting sent to the camps. People didn’t think about leaving North Korea until they realized that their government wasn’t really what they presumed to be. They realized how much better life was outside of North Korea, influencing them to leave the country. That perspective that the North Korean’s had about their government towards the end of Nothing to Envy was similar to the perspective that the Cuban’s had about their government.
