Fiction Is Fiction Worthwhile

Decent Essays
I believe that reading fiction is really worthwhile. Non-fiction teaches us about facts or things that have gone on in the past. Fiction tells us stories and uses entertaining plots. As little children thats were we develop our imagination and creativity skills. We need fiction to expand our minds beyond just history and the facts of life. Fiction stories show hidden messages about different morals and decisions that determine what kind of person you want to be.
Childhood stories always involve a heroic rescue or an adventure where the main character defeats the bad guy and saves his pals or a helpless person in trouble. Fiction stories teach people to bring out that inner hero inside of them or teaches them to pull through in the eye of adversity

To say that I am a reader would be a stretch. I can not remember the last time I picked up a book for my own personal pleasure. Some would say that should bother me, but I can’t agree with the reasoning behind it. Mostly people bring up how books have broadened their horizons and changed their way of thinking, which is something I can’t relate to. Instead, I would say that I agree with what a good book should do, but I can‘t say I have found a good book, or a page turner if you will.…

Through the methods in which a writer creates a fictional story by using devices such as, Character, plot, and point of view they are able to expand and enhance our ability to understand other human beings; it promotes a deep sense of morality that affects all readers. Subsequently, fiction’s happy endings have distorted the reader’s sense of reality for the betterment of society. As a matter of fact, fiction is more effective at challenging our beliefs than nonfiction, which is made to persuade through argument and evidence. Why do we read fiction? Is it possible that the reason humans read is that “it satisfies our deepest need – the need of feeling our life to be, in itself, significant” (Warren). Also fiction makes us yearn for problems that relate to our lives and help us get through the difficulties we are enduring. In the novel, A Separate Peace by John Knowles, Gene is dealing with the internal struggle of not being as good as Finn but trying to keep it a secret.…

Honors English Final The general argument made by Lee Siegal in “Should Literature Be Useful?” is that there is a definite need for all people to read fiction because it teaches empathy – something many believe is only attained through reading nonfiction. More specifically, Siegal argues that fictitious stories offer just as much of a societal benefit as nonfiction by stating, “Reading fiction is good…because it makes you a more effective social agent. Which is pretty much what being able to read a train schedule does for you, too.” Furthermore, empathy is more than just sympathy or compassion.…

What do you believe the best genre is for literacy? Well, I believe that fiction is the one that interest me the most. Three reasons why I think fiction has changed my perspective in literacy is the creativity, my brother, and the Hunger Games series. People might not like fiction because people don’t like stories that are just too crazy such as like Star Wars (which everyone does like even though it’s fiction). Fiction is something that can just be really fun to read/write because of the realness or story being filled with so much adrenaline.…

When I was just a little girl, I loved reading fairy tales which brought me to many vicarious thrilling adventures, and when growing up, non-fiction books taught me how to become a good person. Fairy tales are a work of fiction and children are fully aware of that. Taking the fairy tales away from the pre-school and kindergarten students would be wrong because it takes away their chance of developing creative minds and becoming creative thinkers. Children have grown up on these stories for age and should continue to grow up on them because the stories teach children life lessons. (Orde) Fairytales can teach children lessons like manors, helping people, and being courageous in a fun and exciting way with princesses, dragons, and other magical creatures. Grimm’s fairy tales can seem inappropriate to adults for children to read but to the children it’s just another story about princesses, princes, and magical creatures.…

I’ve always had the impression that fairytales were innocent stories of finding true love and living happily ever after, like the way Disney depicted them to be. I never thought about where these stories came from and the different themes and symbols that were relevant of that time. Some of the things I’ve learned about fairytales have not only shocked me, but has also made me reevaluate everything I know about fairytales. Something I never knew about fairytales is that they weren’t always for children. I’ve always associated them with a younger audience so thinking that these stories were written for adults enjoyment is really crazy to believe.…
