Ban on Fiction Books
To the School Board, I believe that the banning of fiction books is a defective idea for the reason that countless number of people get creative ideas from these types of books. Fiction books make people want to explore outside their comfort zone, and give motivation to keep fighting for different goals . A larger number of intelligent people think fiction books are helpful, Albert Einstein supports this quote that fiction books can help you become brilliant by saying,“If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales, If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales.” You want the kids at your school to become more intellectual and grow up to turn the world into a better place? I came to a conclusion that it is important for the reason that it shows you that not everyone has an easy way to college, because of gang violence, people putting them down, and family members really not caring too much about having an education. Let’s take “Gang Capital” for instance, a gang in Los Angeles, everywhere you go you will see a gang member compared to Rancho Cucamonga where you rarely see any. That is a huge difference in an environment, making it easier for kids to get distracted from school and want to join a gang since they see all the magnificent things gang members show off. In this line Tee-Aye says “Thinking he was tough, Trey had started representing Oak-town and some boys from the East Side decided to shut him up… which led to Devon getting shot also he was the smartest in the school” (pg.311). Gang violence can get to you just from the people you hang out with, even if you are the smartest and nicest kid at your school. My example in the novel helps to prove my statement that fiction books are needed since it teaches you about the different lives kids go through, and what possibly occurs to those who don’t live in a safe environment.
