Fff's Primary Visual Message Analysis

Improved Essays
FFF’s primary purpose is to diminish the separation of immigrant families in the U.S. by stopping the deportation of parents of U.S. born citizens. This objective is projected through Figure 1, which was drawn from FFF’s official website. In this figure, FFF’s primary visual message is that people from different backgrounds are uniting to protest against deportations. Moreover, FFF is asking to stop the raids. The visual cues that are used to convey these messages are, first of all, the explicit text written on the poster which is demanding to stop raids and deportations. Second, the great quantity of people in the picture shows that this is a protest, which gives it relatively high importance because it shows that people care about this issue.

Furthermore, the broken lines in the written words “STOP POLICE BRUTALITY” symbolize the broken justice system. Along with this representation is the image in slide seven, which also represents the injustice and corruption of law enforcement. At a very early age, I, along with many others, were taught to trust law enforcement and to go to them for protection. Yes, police are supposed to uphold the law and serve and protect every citizen regardless of the color of our skin.…

The subject for the article “The Age of Protest” by Thomas Friedman revolves around today’s act of protesting and how people are “becoming more morally aroused” from these various protests. Protests nowadays are very much involved with the society as a whole because “when you get that much agitation in a world, everyone with a smartphone is now a reporter, news photographer and documentary filmmaker.” Now that generally everyone has a smartphone, he is saying that anyone can take part in any issue of importance because they can stay involved with conflicts happening over any broad distance. Also since many people are aware of different protests happening, they experience a moral debate about it as well of the decisions made during the event.…

While reading Make the Dirt Fly and Message to congress you could spot the contrasting opinions of the Canal Zone pretty quickly. When one is reading excerpts from Hardeveld, you hear more dislikes than anything. He described the work of the canal as being slow moving, while also complaining about the food being awful. When comparing Roosevelt, he not only pointed out the bad but the good as well. Hardeveld would often point out the slow process of being the canal without explanation, while Roosevelt would inform readers that the reasons behind the lack of progress was due to rain.…

In Christophe Ena’s photograph, “France Trump Inauguration Protest,” he utilizes pathos-heavy rhetoric to argue for equal rights for women and minorities. On January 21, 2017, millions of women and men marched peacefully in protest of President Donald Trump’s inauguration. What began as a Facebook page dedicated to a Women’s March on Washington, D.C. quickly grew into a worldwide march for women, minority, and immigrant civil rights (Hartocollis, Alcindor). Ena’s photograph captures the protest in Paris, France and depicts women and men forming one voice against Trump and oppression (Ena). By applying appeals to ethos, doxa, kairos, and most prominently pathos, employing emotions of hope, camaraderie, and a yearning for change, Ena’s argument for equality is rhetorically strengthened to maximize effectiveness.…

The color scheme and the image of the world in a pair of hands plays a major role in the effectiveness of the visual argument. The image with the world in a pair of hands makes the audience feel a sense of obligation to partake in the abolition of modern slavery. The use of the text “Land of the Free...and the Home of the Slaves” is a play on words. Furthermore, the use of the American flag in the center of the world that is in black and white labels America as the protector of the earth but we are not in fact doing our job. Finally, the distinct blue line along with the white and red text brings a sense of patriotism.…
