Feudalism Vs Manorialism

The concepts of feudalism and manorialism are much like mutualism in the animal kingdom. Both species lack something, such as food, defense, or shelter, and both species can obtain what they need by cooperating with each other. Feudalism is based similarly. In a monarchy, for example, what the lord in power may lack is the knowledge that his subjects are loyal to him and would never try to overthrow him or betray his interests. What a lower-class citizen may require is protection, food, land, or other similar primary wants. When both the lord and the peasant can both offer something the other needs, the two are in agreement. This is feudalism, at a basic level. A feudalist society usually only occurs in a region that is ruled by a single lord and contains a lot of poor citizens, and a manorial society forms where there are some wealthy citizens, like landlords, and a large population of people in need of work. These communities tend to be very fragile because any influential person involved in a mutually beneficial deal may refrain from carrying out their end of the bargain. However, when these deals are executed properly, they have yielded fruitful results.

Feudalist and manorial societies were likely very helpful for peasants when other work was scarce. They provided populations that would otherwise have sunk deeper into poverty an opportunity to earn food and land in return for labor or devotion.
