Festive Medieval Fete: A Fictional Narrative

On the morning of December 25th, the day after the “Festive Medieval Fete,” as Morgana had called it, Arthur woke with a food hangover. After his flirtation with casual alcoholism back during the summer, her rarely imbibed, but food was a different matter. Tristan had produced an incomparable feast the previous night.

“I’m not going for authentic,” Tristan explained, “but I am going for delicious.”

Even with his bloated stomach aching, Arthur recalled the scrumptious delicacies from the previous night. It started with spiced nuts, mini-quiches, stuffed mushrooms, cheese, crackers, smoked salmon, and assorted types of gourmet popcorn, both sweet and savory. The popcorn had been a huge hit.

Arthur saved room for the main courses which was roast duck, cheese fondue, baked acorn squash, salads galore, and a vegan eggplant parmesan. By the time Tristan and Annis brought out desserts of pies, cookies, fudge, ice cream, and fixings for a sundae bar, Arthur could barely move, he was so stuffed, and he was paying for it today.

He recalled Tom used to drink ginger tea when the nausea from MS bothered him, and since it seemed to work well, Gwen made sure Arthur had some, too. He’d heave himself out of bed and prepare it after he checked his phone.

There was nothing from Gwen, no response to the pictures he sent last night. Then the words she spoke over the phone the other day popped into his mind: “You should try dating again.”
