It always seems to find its way back into style. Rudei Karrer, the curator, of the denim museum in Zurich, Switzerland, Ruedi Karrer, is not into denim as in terms of style trends and fashion but he just loves denim. Karrer is more evolved with the history of denim as well as running this museum. “Denim is one of the world’s most popular trends,” said Karrer, “I figured if someone was going to do a museum about it, it was going to be me.” The museum first opened its doors in Zurich, Switzerland in 2001. Over 12,000 loved denim items have found a safe place to survive for ever in a real-life exhibit, instead of an online-only medium. At the end of the 1960s, the Karrer family of 12 received two Levi’s pants from the 50s out from a cloth donation parcel. Ruedi Karrer, got quickly hooked on raw denim, “It’s an obsession that has continued ever since that moment,” said Karrer. In an unsuccessful attempt to imitate a then-popular Italian type of corduroy, the Andre family in the French City of Nimes developed a new, particularly durable twill fabric called serge. This serge de (from) Nimes was shortened to “denim.” Fast-forward about a century to 1848, when …show more content…

As an inventor, Otti Berger is not so much concerned with expressing her subjectivity or inner self but concerned with inventing a new weaving process and protecting her identity and invention through patenting. Even though her road to patent wasn’t easy, Berger ultimately received two patents: one in Germany in 1934 and one in London in 1937 (p.56). Textile’s characteristics, such as functional, unremarkable, sometimes generic and mass-produced, often rendered textiles unattributed. Her motivation to seek patents comes primarily from her identity as a woman in a rather anonymous field of textile industry. Breaking down the Afterlife The Afterlife of clothing is very important to society. Many people do not stop to think about what happens to their clothes after they donate, recycle, or trash them. When Americans discard a piece of clothing we usually do it one of two ways.
