In both poems the two main themes are people and places. In the poem “Fern Hill” the theme of people is revealed in the first stanza as Dylan Thomas personifies “Time” so that the reader thinks that “time” is a person. Dylan Thomas presents “time” as a key idea in his poem. Dylan Thomas presents “time” as a person and as an authority figure.This is revealed when it says “Time let me hail and climb”, this indicates that Time has strict control of Dylan Thomas’ life. In the same way Idris Davies refers to time but not as a person. The quotation that highlights that Idris Davies refers to time is “sun goes down”, this shows that the day is ending and time is passing by. Although both poems have reference to time Dylan Thomas refers to time many times whereas Idris Davies refers to time just once.

We can assume that the poet praised everything in the poem because the the poem was written when World War 2 ended and children who were evacuated from the big towns to the countryside were able to return home . On the other hand “Let’s go to Barry Island, Maggie fach” is a poem which shows people's problems in 1926 during the general strike. “Let’s go to Barry Island, Maggie fach” views Wales as a country of solidarity as it states “all sing together”.
