Carlos Legaspi – Cinema Appreciation – MW 12:30-1:45 We as people that inhabit the earth are living during the biggest crisis that has been known since the existence of human kind. Technological advances have made up our past and we have forgotten about nature, we are disconnected from it more and more every day. As the generation that is living during the times of crisis and undergoing the changes such as global warming, pollution and the cutting down of trees, thus destroying environments. These changes have deteriorated the earth and have significantly damaged the earth, along with its natural beauty. Important people around the world are starting to speak up about these issues like environmentalists, lawyers and doctors. The most important …show more content…
I will show this by illustrating the archetypes, stereotypes, characters, symbols, motifs and binary opposites in the works of movies: Fern Gully, Lion King, Pocahontas and Avatar. To begin in the film Fern Gully, Krysta is the main protagonist and she is portrayed throughout the movie as a nurturing female archetype and she appears to be the prodigy of Magi. Magi is sought out to be a mentor archetype and showing Krysta the ways of a fairy. The plot begins as Zak Young is walking through the forest and he is working for someone that is into the lumber business. It starts out at this beautiful place with abundant fruit and animals everywhere, Zak is a careless kid from the city, marking trees to be cut down. A reoccurring symbol throughout the movie is the x on trees meaning they will be subjected to be cut down. The leveler used to perform these acts lets out a gas acting as the pollution and we are introduced to the villain archetype hexxus who was let out while accidently cutting the tree that was harboring this evil. The pollution let out from the gas is harming trees and hexxus wants to hurt fern gully. As the movie progresses Zak is shrunk down and is brought back to the village and is eager to learn the ways of the fairies. It is shown throughout the movie that trees are the center
