Fern Gully Research Paper

FernGully is a tale of how humans destroy and release danger into the world and care nothing about it. Even though FernGully is a fictional movie, there are still a lot of real world points it brings up. There are many references to real world problems and actions throughout the movie mixed in with cartoon antics to mix fun into the movie as well. In FernGully, the first thing we hear about a human is through Batty. Batty is a bat who escaped the humans after he was tested on. The humans put many wires and devices in him most likely trying to create a super bat that could send radio signals. During this process, one of the humans named Zak accidentally marks the tree that an evil power named Hexxus is being held in so that he can cause no more harm to the earth. After the humans cut down the tree, Hexxus is released and uses the pollution and oil of the leveler to become more and more powerful. In the movie, Hexxus is really the embodiment of pollution. He is supposed to represent the destruction that is caused when humans begin to mess with nature without thinking of the consequences. Hexxus is seen as a small weak piece of oil when he is first released from the tree however; as the lever began to power up he began to grow. Hexxus tell the lever operators Ralph and Tony they need to hurry up and reach FernGully before sunrise so they send the leveler into overdrive causing more polluting gas and oil to be produced. The humans having no idea they had released Hexxus made their way to FernGully where they discover that Hexxus was on top of the leveler and growing stronger as they went on, run away from the monster they had created. This is a reference to how humanity as treated pollution. Even though we humans know, we created pollution we run away from it because we don’t want to face the consequences of our actions. The humans knew that they were cutting down lots of trees but put it no thought about the lost habitats and animals that are being killed while they cut down all these trees.
